Going to add a little background before i get into the main issue and then say what i did and why but i’d also love to hear other opinions.

Background: the mother in law invited me to a charity like poker game at a bar about 50% of the buyins going to a girls softball team
$25 buyin with 3 hour window for rebuys

The event: i get there play well for the first two hours and towards the end of rebuy my QJ two pair loses two a rivered straight I proceeded to go all on so i can rebuy at the rebuy period i should note one of the coaches did rebuy 4x to boost his chip stack. ( I didn’t realize you could do that at this tournament)

I rebuy we make it to the final three, me and two different coaches. The first hand i fold and they are heads up when one of them looks at the other and says “I’m not going to raise against you.” Now I immediately noticed what was going on and basically said i might as well shove if you two won’t raise against each other. The other coach just shrugged. I slow played for a bit waiting for a shove hand and we went there about 5 cycles. They never raises against each other. I proceeded to lose when 4 hearts hit the board to give one of the coaches a flush. I collected my $39 winnings so a $11 loss overall and left.

I was really upset i know it was all for a good cause but i hate being cheated. I kinda of just let it go and said never again do i play for charity. (2nd place would get $69 and first was around $140 i think)

This happened on sunday and i’m still upset what would you have done if anything different

To be honest I would have told them to play some serious game because is a game of competition and if I was the winner I would donate the whole amount to the charity.
But those strategies are not acceptable by me.Sorry! GG :)

lesson 1: never trust a mother in law
lesson 2: be prepared to react to collusion, tilt was the intended reaction

It happens when you run into friends who are on the same table. I wouldn't call this "cheating/collusion" but I do agree it is in the ballpark. I might have said something while on the tables and call them out on some BS if it was becoming an issue, however seeing as this was a small game for charity I would have most likely done exactly what you did. Play the game quietly and hope that I can take advantage of the situation. Don't dwell on it too much, if you're really upset and it's going to impact the season whenever you see them, say something and just ask "what was with that?". Don't imagine myself being bothered by it for any longer than I was on the table though.

I would not start anything over less than $400 bucks especially at a charity event. They might not even realize it is cheating. I would not be interested in playing that event in the future.

Outspoken collusion at a charity event is the same as extortion by the mafia, be it with a pink smell.
I guess I would have politely advised them about what they are doing, and just leave (and never come back; lost of charitable organizations to donate to).

...I would have called the floor charity or not cheating is cheating and when they objected i would have told them exactly what i thought about cheaters.

I’m glad the bitter feeling i have is justifies.

Couple things I wanted to point out there was no floor.

Apparently they did this last year and had about 30 people turn out this year only about half that number so it’s obvious what happened

I think that you should of told them that it is not ok to do that. I don't think they knew what they were doing was that bad. If you had told them I think they would of straightened up.

I think it comes down to motivations,,,,why are you there? Are you there to win money? or are you there to help? The coach who paid/donated $100 was there to help,,,not to make $40,,,obviously. I hope the girls were able to play softball and had fun! (that what is was about)
