I hear a lot of talk about the bots in online poker rooms. What are the theories here? Are the bots programed by players or groups of players or by the rooms themselves? How to they have an advantage over regular players? Do they only exist in cash games or can they be in tournaments? How do they usually play? How do you spot them and most importantly how do you defeat them?

It is from my understanding that some of these bots are programmed to play explotative against its opponents. These bots will be pre-programmed with hand histories, so they will already know all your stats and know exactly what your weaknesses are. Since it is a computer it can analyse hundreds of HUD stats and choose what is the best way to win. Say you fold a lot to 3-bets or C-bets, its going to start raising any two cards. I mean a good player with an HUD could also do these things, but not as quickly and effortlessly as a machine could.

If you have ever try to play against the bot "POKER Snowie" you will see that some bots are capable of playing very strong poker. I think most bots you would see online would take a more explotative approach based on hand history but not nessecarily be the strongest player otherwise.

It would be okay with me if they had some sort of random periodic "BOT" check like a captcha or similar.

Its a problem thats only going to get worse unless they do something to fix it.

Bots

I had no idea "bots" could be so sophisticated.

It's hard to understand why certain platforms would stop "bots" playing when it boosts their online numbers and pot rakes. Also, a platform with a leader who sponsored a person who uses a good "bot", having no official connection, would be easy to do. Upon getting caught, would simply move to another person.

Remedy: Avoid players which appear to perform mechanically. A good test is to ask a question. No response may be indicative.

i don't see a lot of people in chat, so i wouldn't use that. the way i can tell is just by watching...you can see they do the exact same thing every time. takes exactly 3 seconds to make a play or exactly no time to fold. it becomes most obvious when there are inactive players. as an example, i played in a tournament one time with 7 in active. just me and the bot playing. he literally folded 90% of the time because he didn't know everyone was inactive. i swept the blinds for 30 minutes or so and would fold to him if i didn't have the nuts against his bet. stayed at his table even after that and watched him continue to bet exactly the same when he had a hand.

whether they are a bot or a human playing like one, it doesn't matter at the lower stakes. just play your hand and you'll come out ahead. perhaps not as much as if you could trust that they would play "right" but you'll still do well.

Chat is only a option that takes a few seconds to perform. A good question is always tempting to respond to. It may not be a determinant but an indicator.

The bot you indicated would be easy to identify and not pose a threat; however it is my assumption that a more sophisticated "bot" would be more of a complication.

It's hard to prove that you are playing against the bot. I just hope that the rooms will fight them.

The bot can sometimes be determined by you because its actions are almost always equally suspicious, but it is very difficult.
but in general, if there are bots in the room, then this room is not trustworthy and does not fight with them.

Bots, bots, bots. I have yet to hear anyone name one single bot on any site ever. People just come in here and say bots are everywhere, taking their money, but they never mention who the bots are!!! Crying into the internet isn't helping. Name names or cry to your mammy.

Yes, there are poker bots in every poker room. Basically, it's hard to beat it, but in principle it's possible. You can beat it only one on one. Against two or three bots your chances are 0.

all sites have bots, who cares... you can buy a bot for like $80. It also isn't hard to spot, they will be on the max amount of tables, much like anyone who plays a lot of tables, they will be super tight and aggressive, but play them straight up and you are fine. they won't do some weirdo hero call like the local donkey. Also, it is a TRUE GAMBLE to use them since they are prohibited on all sites, it would be a stupid reason to get banned from a site, who may then share that info with the other sites, then you are done. It is the equivalent of getting banned for life from your favorite vegas casino... not worth it.
but what do i know, i am a bot.

there is the opinion of many that bots are usually in cahs games. in MTT they allegedly do not use them much.
do you think this is true?

I'm not ready to give into the idea of all the bots going around playing poker. Seems hard to believe poker sites wouldn't catch on to them pretty quickly and get rid of them. Of course I know there is always a possibility of this happening but it just seems with all the security it wouldn't last very long. I could be wrong though.

poker stars are very effective in dealing with this problem.and we need to help them. If we see that the enemy is behaving around the table suspiciously with his actions of the same type or for some other characteristics, you can always tell PS about the information in the support service and they will check. is not it?

I believe a lot of people who go on a cooler yell, "BOT"!

It's not out of the realm of possibilities that people use bots...I mean with HUD software collecting player stats it wouldn't be hard to make a program that plays based on those stats...

I do not believe the sites themselves employ bots no matter how greedy they may be...but I have not seen any implementations by sites to counter bot play...it would be simple enough to add captia like requirement when a player's stats are above normal...

That's my two cents...

I heard that bots are in all rooms. It is almost impossible to defeat them at a distance. But the admins find them and ban.

I play only freerolls. I hope the bots do not play there, but for money I think that I admit such a possibility in the existence of bots.

There are a lot of threads dealing with bots on 2+2 they are quality threads. Just google it dont want to link here. The bots have same exact states if you play with them on two tables they make actions simultaneously. They make good money for bot keepers. ACR has weakest security as referenced on UnderWorld bot sites. They slaughter the fish i'v seen video and the bots are not bad, not great though.

I recently read the opinion of one PRO player on America on the future of online poker, and there he said that now this is one of those problems, some of which do not want to solve it decisively. and there he said that the ACR was involved in such bad stories, and they still do not fight the bots.
is it true or not???

I really think I shouldn't share the links I have found, but it seems like there even are some "sophisitcated" bots on the market that target several parts of the game (cash, mtt's and even high-roller action)

these bot's are advertized to be feeded with data on how to play from courses like raiseyouredge Masterclass etc, IF that is the case, that should mean that these bots WOULD crush most of the regular players, imo.

I just find it quite hard to believe that pokerstars and other casino's effictively do something against this. They are blockig 3rd party programs like Equilabs etc already, while running the PS client. So as it is, these 3rd party programs should be identified by PS (only not, if they have some kind of stealth injection like some cheat coders for games use).

Also this is really worrying as PS and other casinos could just bare with the status-quo as they would have to spent additional money to stop this, while they would even make more money allowing to let bots play (as they generate profits only from rake anyways)
