I am so annoyed, I have had an account on poker stars for many years, until now.
When I tried to log in about a month ago I was asked for my PIN number, I hadnt the slightest idea what it was so I emailed them.
They replied saying they needed to do a security check and I had to scan and send them a copy of an ID document.
They either wanted me to use my passport, which expired 2 years ago and I am not going to spend £82 renewing it when my heart condition means I cannot travel, or they wanted me to use my driving license which I do not have as I do not drive.
I offered to send them scans of utility bills, letters from the Inland revenue or my bus pass but none of these will do, so I am not now allowed to play on Poker Stars which is very annoying.
They actually warned me that is it illegal to try to open a second account so I replied why would I do that when I cannot @@@@@@@ use my first one :D
I know there is a need for security but their sheer inflexibility is what we seem to come across everywhere these days.
I am expecting to be kicked out of the other poker accounts I have soon because I do not have a passport or driving lisence which kind of sucks :(:(

Yea I know that if you mess with PokerStars they wont hesitate to give you a lifetime ban. I should have played on there back in the day...although FullTilt had all the rail action.

So don't you have an Identification Card or Residence Card?

What do you use to at banks or anywhere else where they ask you for id?

You described it as "sheer inflexibility" do banks in your country accept bus passes as a means of identity?

Hi.
I also passed a similar security check. I have given them a driver's license and utility bills. The verification lasted 5 days. I agree, it is annoying.
Good luck.

It sucks that there are so many people who’s dishonesty ruins it for everyone else. Very frustrating indeed. Sorry for your luck.

Security works both ways. It is designed to protect your money. If you think it is a hassle to get your account straightened out and locked down, then why don't you give me your details and I will do it for you, at no cost!

@Colbefc I have the same line of thinking as @joeisi and @MattRyder. You must of some type of formal identification that you would need for banking. In the US, we have State ID cards for those types of situations (no Military ID, Drivers License, or Passport).

hello, in a way they are right.
you just need to timely clear the account information, for example, if you change the passport ...
All right - one player, one account

It is good that they have to see some proper ID to access the account. I have heard and read about people shocked that someone else was able to trick sites into letting someone else access and change passwords and defraud them. Good luck getting it squared away.

I'm in the US, so this may be useless info.

Several month ago I got an email from Stars, with a pin number. I still haven't got it memorized, as I can't play there for real money. I thought it weird that they wanted to lock down the security on Play Money accounts.

Luckily, I saved that email for reference.

Point being that if you had an old account on Stars, they may have sent you an email, with a PIN. You should check the usual places in your email (junk and trash come to mind). You might also try to get them to send you a fresh pin in a new email.

It is difficult for others to understand, UK citizens are not required to walk around with ID and we do not have ID cards, so the only forms of ID are passport and driving license.
Even our driving licenses didn't have pictures until recently and were valid for 70 years.

I only renewed my passport last time after 5 years without to play a Live poker tournament, not abroad but in this country.
I have to say it is good to have as it is frequently useful to have a simple form of identification, even without any intention to travel abroad.

The only cheaper option I can think of for you is to apply for a provisional driving license £34, without any intention to drive. :)

Also the increasing cost of a passport (an essential document) is scandalous, you should make a complaint to your MP about it, outsourcing clearly isn't working and we shouldn't have to keep paying for inefficient contractors.

I would go for the passport, it seems to be the most natural way. :driver:

Thanks for all your replies, actually everyone on PS has a pin number, it is just that you dont need to use it very often, I think you will find it in your details in the lobby and I would advise all users to make a note of theirs before they need it.
I do not have a Military ID, there used to be an UK ID card but this was discontinued a couple of years ago.
I have never been asked for ID at my bank, I just show them my debit card and that is always enough.
Unlike the US we do not have State ID's and I do not have a Passport or a Driving License.
As there is no possibility of me driving I refuse to pay £34 for a license or £82 for a Passport I would never use, of course if Poker Stars wants to pay I will do it, after all they make enough money off me.
It seems I will never be able to use PS again, which is a pain cos I like playing CC games on there but there is nothing I can do.

I don't even know what to advise you. A sad story that you can only solve with the PokerStars security service.

We have a ID card in NZ for people just like you . Its called an 18+ card and its used by people who dont drive . Joined PS way back and cant remember having to supply anything but a name , deposit and withdrawal method . Just checked my account and it says : 1 request pin 2 your pin is disabled . Did you ever request a pin? . If not , maybe a lot of us will be asked to do a security check . Wonder if i should request a pin .

O/C the other option is to get a account opened in your / wife , child , relatives name . You can deposit and withdraw with your debit/credit card , they dont care how or where the cash is coming from .

They are in New Jersey. The site is Pokerstars.nj unfortunately the player pool is only from this region and not the rest of the world.

The sports betting ruling in last month has paved the way for Poker to come back fully someday it will take time for legislation.
Pokerstars will not come back unless regulation and legislation is in place.

For the meanwhile got to use the other rooms like ACR.

Does anyone know if Poker Stars is coming back to the US?

It has faded from memory, but it's possible a lot of US players provided all the necessary info just to get our money after the Black Friday thing.

I know this isn't directly related to the OP, but may be useful info to some.

Pokerstars and ID

My first question is - how much would you normally spend on stars over a period of say 1-:)3 months?
£82 to get a passport renewed is actually a real investment regardless if you never travel, it opens a door for acceptable ID for so many other things so maybe investing in that is probably a bigger win then investing in gambling on stars?

Just a thought my friend.
