Hi everyone,

I am new to the realm of online poker.

Through my research, I have seen some contradictory and vague information in regards to the legality of playing poker in the U.S.

So basically, is it legal to play online poker in the U.S.?

If yes, what states is it legal in?

Furthermore, is playing online a legal grey area in the U.S. and/or some states or is it 100% legal?

Looking forward to hearing other CardsChat member’s insight and experiences on this matter.

Thanks!

As far as I know that playing online poker in the United States is prohibited. But what will it be if they find out, I do not own the information. But I wish you that later you would be allowed online poker.

Currently its a state issue. Federally its frowned upon but instead of going after the players they go after banks which is why it is difficult for US players to deposit with their credit card, unlike prior to 2011. This documentary though an hour long gives a good recount of online poker from it's inception in the early 90s to about 2016 or so.

Yes. It is unregulated in most stares. The unregulated sites are a grey area.
