what states (USA) can I legally play real money on poker stars?

I kept running into sources online that suggest playing elsewhere (ignition/ACR/etc.) and I also ran into articles saying pretty much you can play anywhere in the US but that doesn’t specifically tell me what states I can play pokerstars :mad:

Thanks in advance

PokerStars has a presence in New Jersey, Delaware, and perhaps Nevada. Possibly soon in Pennsylvania. And with a recent SCOTUS decision more States might come along soon.

However, it isn't the real Pokerstars. You will be playing the same software, but not against the rest of the world, only against players in those states.

Just to be clear, online poker is not affected by the recent SCOTUS decision which was related to sports betting which was only legal in Nevada. I do not believe there is a Poker Stars presence in Nevada, however, Nevada New Jersey and Delaware now share the wsop client. WSOP is Caesars Entertainment and regulated by the Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware gaming boards.

To keep it simple, there is no direct correlation between the striking down of PASPA and the legality of online poker in the United States. A 2011 Department of Justice interpretation of the Wire Act, one of the key potential sticking points for online gambling, specifically points to its regulations only referring to sports betting.
That clarification opened up the possibility of states passing legislation to allow for online gambling -- but to date, progress in online poker legislation and online gambling in general has been slow. There is a growing belief, however, that states that press forward with legislation in the future will skew more towards online gambling legislation, rather than individual types of gambling.

Is the WSOP player pool fairly large compared to full tilt or pokerstars?

Not hardly. I would think it is much smaller in comparison. But as more and more States jump on board, and into the pool, it will grow. That is some time down the road however. And of course, those will be US players only.

And, it was my understanding that the PokerStars license was only for New Jersey right now. I was not aware they had a license for the WSOP pool of players. I might be mistaken about that.

I checked recently and could not play PokerStars in Nevada. I can play ACR though. The WSOP merger with New Jersey and Delaware have increased the number of players only slightly.

The big tournaments going on right now are bringing in some people.

I think that the busiest I've seen the 9 handed 0.05/0.10 is 8 full tables.

Not a lot compared to other sites. However, it is regulated by the Nevada Gaming Board.

Wonder how many of those 72 seats were the same person multi-tabling. Yeah, it is going to take a while before they see some major growth, IMO.

The one good thing is the regulation by a gaming board. This is the kind of thing that will only help going forward from here. I hope you are right about WSOP bringing in more players. Maybe by this time next year Pennsylvania will be on board, followed by Ohio, and who knows New York even. After that I think things will start to snowball a little bit.

I don't necessarily know if they will continue to expand. I usually see 2-4 people that are at 2-6 tables each.

The $100 freerolls have 500-600. There is a $22,222 GTD this weekend one on saturday and one on sunday. $11 buy in. I posted about it but no one replied. I am going to play them!

$22K eh? Cool. I wish you luck. It is too bad that neither of those states are on my list to retire to. :(

keep up the grind on ACR man (I've sat with you before in CC freerolls). I think ACR will teach us to become tougher players as I personally think its the toughest site accessible to most US players.

The problem, for me anyway, is the ugly user interface on WSOP. They seem to want to make it a party. Not to mention that I still can't figure out how to use it.

If the Nevada WSOP software does the same thing as the free WSOP software I get when I sign in via FB, then I'm pretty sure they won't be bringing in the 'droves'.

I don't know if ACR has tough players. With enough players I am sure there are some that are tough, but with the number of freerolls they have, there are a lot of fish in the pool. :D

Haha I think it’s tough! Not the freerolls but the 6max cash game grinders.
