I wish they would let Americans play

All the poker sites that don't let Americans play need to update their sites. Some states are getting the green light.

I am fairly sure the key poker sites are fully aware of where they stand legally in each and every jurisdiction.

Grey areas exist but it appears most sites are circumspect about pushing legal boundaries when the longer term goal is full legitimacy. I am sure it is frustrating for many Americans depending on which state they live in but this issue is not exclusive to US citizens - many countries prohibit play.

Specific to the US, I believe the only way forward is to keep legal momentum going on a state by state basis as I do not foresee the federal government playing any positive role.

That said, it is a frustrating situation and recently I glanced one report on the potential of the Californian market which estimated potential tax revenues could amount to $850 million a year.

I agree, i used to actually win money when USA players played on pokerstars, especially when it was Friday night and beer O'clock in the states

yes, why not, everyone would have to be able to if they want it, the government would not have to prohibit it

The departure of the Americans has done great damage to the poker economy. I don’t see that in the near future the Americans will officially return to the world of online poker. Unfortunately.

Unless the US does something on a federal level, which I don't see happening anytime soon, US players will not be able to get back Stars and the other worldwide poker sites. I live in Pennsylvania and we can play on Pokerstar.PA and few other sites but, we can only play against other players in Pennsylvania. I've heard some talk about and deal that would allow us to play with players in New Jersey , Nevada and Delaware, but I'm not sure if that is moving forward at all or not. I know more states are legalizing online poker and I can see some of them joining together for larger player pools but, I think it will be some time before we can join the rest of the world again.

It's not really illegal to play online poker in the other states, the federal government just shut down the banking side of things which made most sites ban US player to keep themselves out of trouble. At least this in my understanding of it.

Yea I'm ok with playing under the radar. I'm running out of sites that let Americans though.

I think the federal route is a dead end.

No politician with a national profile will want to risk his reputation on 'pushing' legislation for online poker into states that on surface level do not want poker. By surface level I mean politically on the right (though not exclusively) and often coupled with an evangelical base. Such a politician would be ambitious, looking to the future and would not want to have any issues that needlessly might thwart his progress. After all online poker does not rise to the level of a party policy issue.

It was interesting that Andrew Yang adopted a pro-poker position which was exciting to the poker community. That said I did not get the impression Yang's passion ran deep - it appeared to me little more than a vehicle for him to appear independent and edgy and I am not sure it was ever a serious run for the WH, even from his perspective. Unless I missed it, I am not sure he has ever mentioned poker since.

I think state to state momentum is the only was to go and then yes have shared, expanded markets.
