I find myself getting bored and playing stupidly after 3hrs+ in a tournament and throwing away chances to win!

Also, I really miss being able to try and read people like you can in live games - wish there were online tells!!!!

:jd4:

P.S. I mean the loneliness during a tournament - not in general.

You can't get up and go for a walk during a tournament, now can you!

Try getting out of the house or go find the nearest game and play. Seems like an easy answer

When i get bored on one table, i either open new tables, or music from yotube, even some documentary..
Yea, and watching football(soccer) on tv, that's always good idea :)

When I'm getting bored. I try to play a spin&go, or something else with a hyper-speed.
You don't really have to think that much in such tournament, but they can be quite funny :)

If you really love to play poker you won't be bored by the game even after 4-5 hours especially when you win;):).

Well how about taking your laptop down to the Foreshore and playing a game in a bar or restaurant there...I bet you would strike up a few good conversations and win or not, it would be fun!!!

More tables can occupy idle time if you are bored. Music, web surfing (I surf but always pay more attention to my poker tables), or CardsChat etc for poker information. Try to remember that if your at the table for hours in the same tournament that is a good thing. There’s definitely online tells you can spot. Note keeping or a HUD can help determine some. It seems as though you favor live play more. May be time to locate some games close by. Good luck.

Why? I do it everytime. Especially on the bubble, when everyone stretches the time.

True...... but that is not a real refresher - just a quick break!

There are, you just don't notice!!
I use the HUD's like everyone else but the ability to read a face when it is a really important call is not there - the online tells are patterns of behaviour, not a single instance like live poker!

Usually Ill put on some music when I'm playing so I don't feel lonely, but usually I'm just so focused on winning and playing that I don't worry about it.

No live poker left in SA - just occasional home games - can't organize a tourney without a gaming licence and all the casinos have dropped raked poker & MTTs for stupid table games that aren't real poker!

I miss the good old days but online is all there is here these days - anyone want to pay for me to move to Vegas :D

That is exactly why my on-line poker time is limited. Unless I am in the mood to play for hours, I don't even look in the tournament lobby. I get so bored, background noise helps but, for me anyway, it only helps for so long

Then stop using it. HUD players - the worst. And my favourite. They don't notice if tactics of players changed. They see only how opponent played before. Just common statistics. That's why probably you don't notice the tells. Also have no idea how they play live.
Oh wait, what I say. Use it!!

I wouldn't like to tell you the tells but try to notice the time of reaction, reasons why they play so, how many tables they play, sizes of bets. I usually see style, level, patterns of player after 2 or 3 hands. Sometimes 5. Just to be sure.

Forgive me but I think you just described patterns of behaviour (snap calls, bet sizes, #of tables etc - all of which I am very aware of) as tells - that is exactly my point - the villain might have you once without breaking his pattern and its bye-bye tourney - that is much harder to do when you stare a guy in the face before you have to call (without a stupid timer to boot)..... hence the sunglass & hoodie convention at wsop :D

Let's agree to disagree........

..online poker isn't for everyone. I know more than a few casino players who have never played online. They aren't looking for bracelet in WSOP just enjoy playing the game with their crew.

Don't be sorry for your opinion.
When I talked about the time of reaction I meant medium or long. snap raise will give you more information. Sometimes players bet 1/3 or 1/2 of the pot, no matter what. Just because it's such function on pokerstars. Not because of strenght of the hand. Sometimes player raises 5BB(1/3 of the pot/ bets if you check) with nothing and 2BB with monster. Or vice versa. patterns.

How do you read face expression? When player look at you before or after betting it can mean he/she hopes you are able to call or he/she is scared if you call. Time of the look is similar. I noticed few other face expressions which look absolutely the same but mean absolutely different.

Once yes, it can happen even if you know all tells. Well, the same in live games.
I never understood sunglasses & hoodies. sunglasses? Well, your forehead will give more information. hoodies? I can still see your cheeks and how you sit, how your hands move.
