I was wondering how you guys feel about going south online. Going south means you're taking chips off the table after you've won a big pot. Online that would mean rejoining. Also worth noting is if you're playing zoom, almost everybody are not even going to know that you did that. What are your thoughts?

Hello i thinks its not a good thinks to do because when you have more chips you can earn more chips
For exemple toi had 150BB and your opponent had 120 BB the opponent bet all-in in thé river with a quinte and you call with a full
You win 120 BB but if you have 100BB you win just 100BB
And in cash game 20BB is réal money i thinks you must have the maximum chips you can have
Sorry for my english i'm belgian
Have a good day

It’s certainly not cool. If your doing that often you will get no action and labeled. Definitely a move that is frowned upon.

In real life play, I know this is definitely frowned upon on cash game play. Unless it's voiced out in advance to some respect for how the event's being run or the like, it's best to avoid doing that if possible. As for online play, I think it's more acceptable for a number of reasons. First, one of the beauties of playing online is that you can fit it into your schedule. If you can only play for 30 minutes because you have to go somewhere or do something, you can do that. Also, when it comes to setting gain or loss limits for your play, some people like to reach a certain point above or below their starting stack so they don't lose too much or gain a certain amount and lose it all. Lastly, if your BR is lower, perhaps you'd like to book some wins to help balloon your BR for the future.

"Going south" can make perfect sense as a form of risk management. If for instance you have 40BI for the stakes, you are playing, you are potentially risking 2,5% of your bankroll on a single cash game hand, which is fine.

However if you are sitting with 300BB, because you won some pots, and someone else has you covered, now you are suddenly potentially risking 7,5% of your bankroll on a single hand. Which is not really good bankroll management.

However on regular tables "going south" typically means changing to another table, as most poker sites wont let you buy back in for less, than you left with. So if the table is good, you need to evaluate, which is more important.

At Zoom you can just hop in and out, and I think, there is a strong case to be made for doing it, unless you are playing for money, you truly dont care about. I still have painfull memories about some Zoom spots like running second set into top set and getting stacked for 250BB.

Be smart no one has a problem taking your chips don't feel bad to do whatever you think is necessary to keep them. As far as keeping them to lean on shorter stacks that's up to you and how u play. I def go south don't need to lean i like to go all in when someone else shoves without risking everything. Live it is frowned upon but i dont care what r they gonna do try n take my chips harder sometimes them being upset helps. If i when a real good hand I'll fill a chip trey and hand them to my wife to take to cage. I only play cash tables live!

Going south is completely legal but is one of those that confront your etiquette in poker. This is especially true when playing live at casinos or home games. Normally you would have to rejoin the table and wait but sometimes this does not stop people from doing it. If you have witnessed anyone doing this live, you will know what I mean when noting how the entire table is now against you (which can be a good thing).

Online is a completely different story. Poker (for me) does not hold the same etiquette as live given its structure. Instead of calling time live, there is a time bank, and on some sites, your identity is protected through anonymous numbers as aliases. So in terms of going south online, I don't see it as much as a problem given the environment.
