Do you think that the tournaments have gotten softer lately?

Do you think the Covid-19 lockdown has made it easier for the recreational players to sign up to play for online poker?

I've been noticing how easy it is to at least get a min-cash out the daily freeroll tournaments on ACR/BCP lately. Some of the stuff I see makes absolutely no sense.

For example, I opened up with 2 1/2 BBs for JJ and get called by the villain.
I make a continuation bet after the flop and I get called.
check-check on the turn.
There's a jack on the river and I push all in, and the villain calls.
At the showdown he shows AQ, and basically all he has is AQ high.
Makes no sense to me.

So do you think that some of the new rec players that we've seen lately are awful poker players or is it just my own way of thinking?

Not sure about your hand example because it doesn't say how deep the stacks are... and I have no clue how the players are during COVID in the public freerolls BUT in general there has been a large influx of bad, recreational, new, & gambling type of players. There has also been a HUGE increase in numbers (tournament guarantees had doubled & tripled on some of the sites). Right now though I'm afraid we're seeing the tail end of this as the numbers are diminishing and fewer & fewer new 'COVID players'.

I think part of what we've been seeing on the sites is your typical 'live' casino-type player... the ones who play your $60 tournament or $100 tournament at the Casino... or who play $1/$2 cash tables now taking a shot at online play. Some have been very successful in the wsop series online this year too. :)

And yes... LOTS of play that makes no sense at all.

When that hand was over I was 2nd in chips in the tournament. I have been seeing lots of online tilt where players just go all in with absolutely nothing!

Glad to see that the casino players are doing well. :)

Look in my opinion every day it is more difficult to reach cashing positions in online poker, maybe as you say there are more recreational ones, specifically in freerolls they make it even more difficult because they play out of all logic and many times they eliminate you or decrease your chip stack with. Very marginal hands that you don't expect.

Surely is the opposite because the number of players around the globe has tremendously increased. This is a straight relation to it.

I think, it did for a while, but it ended, when the lockdowns ended. Volume has since crashed back down to the pre COVID-19 levels, and if anything there are less recreational players on the tables now than pre COVID-19. Or at least not more.
