I think it's definitely possible but without any hard numbers I'm just speculating. I work in higher education and quite a few universities in the US are completely suspending all face-to-face lectures and moving everything online.

I think that this infection scared many people, but it all depends on where you live, I’m from Russia and on March 8 there were 17 sick people, many were already discharged from hospitals, if I had the opportunity to visit a casino, I would have done it without hesitation but from my place of residence to the nearest casino there are three days by train.

Do you guys think more people are playing online vs live due to Coronavirus
This could be, but i don´t have statistics to tell you if it is true! I´m from Germany, and they are suspending all events with more than 1000 people. So that could really be the case, that live players are switching to online-poker for this period.

I suppose that, like everything in many countries, work activities, classes and any kind of meeting of people have been suspended, poker would not be the exception of this, so most likely in countries where this terrible virus is affecting its population the players that they went to the casinos to play live they will be placed to play online although I do not think it is a significant increase since in 99% of the cases the players who play live poker also play in online poker

Sounds logical. Many players play both online and live and as the gatherings of people (including poker tournaments) are being limited in many countries it is normal people to play more online. In the countries which are affected seriously many people work from home or are under quarantine so we can also expect some new players or recreationals to start playing online fighting the boredom caused by isolation. Of course all these are just guesses and only the poker rooms have the real picture.

We are facing a virus that will be complicated to stop. If it continues to expand, it is likely that online poker will increase.

WHO declares the outbreak of the coronavirus as a pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed more than 118,000 cases of covid-19 in 114 countries and 4,291 deaths. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has stated that, according to experts' estimates, '60% to 70% of the inhabitants of germany may become infected with the coronavirus' if a vaccine and treatment methods for covid-19 are not developed soon:eek::eek::(:(

It has already had an affect I think. I looked at the number of entrants in the tourneys on ACR on the weekend and for example if the guarantee was 30000 they would have got about 40000 in entry dollars. They seemed to be consistently taking in a lot more than their guarantees.

If economy will collapse because of the virus, then most probably there will be no place left for games like poker, soccer, and so on. The most popular game will be "Survive next 24 hours, and repeat it tomorrow"

This virus spread is only the beginning. it will get much worse around the world.

People will get board being at home and I do think the numbers of online players will increase. and online anything will increase. including purchases.

so, if you run any online store, sites, ads, affiliate stuff it should increase

Do you guys think more people are playing online vs live due to Coronavirus?

I think it could very easily increase but not so much due to an increase in live players moving to online. I think more due to large sportting events being cancelled (ie. NBA games). And what happens if baseball & Football games follow... 100's of thousands (Millions) of people who would normally be out spectating a sporting event on the weekend.. now cooped up at home. Bring on the pokerzzzz

I think the coronavirus is having a huge impact on online poker. The elderly are the most likely to die from the virus. Adults in their 20s are less than 1% to die, while those aged 60+ have up to an 18% chance of dying from it. So if you're young, go out and play.

The interesting thing will be what the organisers choose to do.
Currently EPT Sochi is scheduled to start in one week. Cases in Russia are extremely low, so I anticipate it will go ahead, but with this virus a week is a long time.
EPT Monte Carlo is one month later, when we will probably be around the peak of the outbreak. What happens then? Will pokerstars postpone the event? Cancel it? Or make it an online tournament with the same structure as the live?

Who knows? It's all speculation at this point.

Also will be working from home for at least three weeks. Will for sure spend more time on online poker. Maybe this a chance to get some boom in a system that has a generally declining trend...

I definitely think, online businesses are among the only ones to potentially benefit from this virus. Its probably a bit of a trade off though, since many people will be scared of losing future income and cut back on luxury spending like gambling.
