Will online poker get worse before it gets better? The inability of sites to protect player data, money and game integrity may mean the end of online poker. Is it better to follow the money and see where it leads? What if it’s not about money? Who benefits from DDoS attacks? Who benefits where bots are used for purposes other than DDoS attacks? Is it always just a few greedy players? Who benefits where player data is compromised? What about sites which do not protect player data? Who benefits when tournaments are cancelled? Is compensation equal to the prize money offered by the host sites? Is compensation always offered? Many trails to follow, are there not? States lose interest once they have accomplished their goals. Cartels have no interest in sites through which they cannot launder money. Other criminal groups abandon their attacks once they get what they want or after the heat gets too high. Even minor criminal actors move away once their bots are discovered or at risk of discovery. So why do attacks continue? Who benefits from their continuance? What are common elements from the different kinds of attacks presently ongoing? States!? Cartels? Other criminals? Petty criminals? Host sites? Anti-website hacktivists? Players? Opportunists? Authorities don't seem to get anywhere since attacks continue. Can players do anything to end, or to spot, attacks that threaten an industry which brings us the games we enjoy?

Great thread. Following. I hope you get some in depth posts. I wonder the same things. I'm sure if we had an answer to most of these questions it would be a lot less likely the attacks and cheating would continue. I'm sure all sites involved are working hard to answer these questions.

If banks and credit card companies can't keep your data private then how can a poker site?

When new college students can't open new poker accounts on a website that is being attacked, they open them on sites that work.

Other than that the perps are the usual suspects....govs and organized crime.

As an individual without super cyber skills there is very little one can do.

Good luck !
