Recently China has announced that it will ban online poker and now I have just read on CardsChat an article about the German treatise on the end of online games. In this article, he highlights the performance of PokerStars with DVTM, to fight against this deal.
The treaty aims to prohibit betting online and allow only horse races, this in my opinion is a bias, because if it is then prohibited to prohibit everything.
It's just the state to identify players online and collect taxes from these players, it would be better, since the games generate revenue.

Poker is a great game. And playing online without leaving home is very convenient, I will be very sorry if it is banned. I'm too lazy to go somewhere to play poker.

If a question is money, then it taxes players in their countries. If you can not play online then players can gather in the underworld of the games. In brazil cash games are prohibited, the player from Brazil can play online cash game and tournament in any way as they are allowed.

It all depends on a good negotiation of the websites operators with the governments. Now in terms of transparency poker still has to grow a lot.

virtual/online entertainment will be the future, childs grow up with smartphones and tablets and they will be afftected for this in the future, therefore i think is not possible massive bans in games, some countryes really can have hard positions about it, but become it a world opinion is a hard work

I would not want to be banned from online poker. To play at home or at work is very convenient.
The main thing that there were no bots

Why are many countries against online poker? I don't understand that. I am only for the development of poker in the world.

I think as players we must be honest with ourselves and others by acknowledging that Poker does destroy some people. For those who have no skills in the game, and do not study to become winning players, it can be just as destructive as roulette or blackjack (for them). There are people with a people with a concealed gambling problem who hide it in Poker knowing they can defend their activities as not being purely chance. This enables them to continue their addiction without ever having to face that they have a problem. This is a Zero sum game. For every 'great day' we have at the tables, someone else has just had a miserable day. It's important to remember that. Don't get me wrong, I love Poker and wouldn't be here on this forum if I didn't. But as an aspiring professional player I have to acknowledge the danger it presents to some people, and the destruction it brings to their finances and sometimes their families and friends.
Governments who have a large number of people in their country who are hopelessly addicted to certain gambling games feel it is their duty to protect people from themselves. Some 3rd world ish countries have the technology to provide the Internet and computers needed to play online poker. Unfortunately many participants will not have had the same quality of education or common financial sense as others. They tend to be quickly defeated by more privileged opponents who have access to more resources. But we have to also admit that Poker can cause severe social and financial issues when played by the wrong people. No one wants to admit this or even say it because there is a conflict of interest in doing so. The best players know that their profits come from other players mistakes. So it wouldn't do their bottom lines any good to begin 'protecting' these weak players from themselves. And that's why you'll rarely ever hear any pros giving an opinion on this issue. A moral objection to weak players being targeted and exploited could be one of the reasons for a ban.

Now lets respond to that by asking why that same country hasn't banned tobacco and Alcohol if it cares so deeply about its people's well being? The very simple answer is TAX. Every country makes billions from smokes and drink in taxes. Most online Poker companies and providers are registered on desert islands in tax haven countries, to protect them from losing money to revenue. I think one of the main things that gets Poker banned is the tax issue. The main issue they have with it is that it's providing a way for money to LEAVE their economy without being taxed or circulating around again. This isn't a problem for countries with a high number of winning online players because those players are bringing money in! Which then gets spent there. But gambling sites could be a big problem for countries with millions of losing players as that money isn't coming back and their country already can't afford to lose it. Another reason is that some countries have religious and moral objections to Poker and other gambling games, but my gut tells me this is mainly a tax and business issue

Overall, I think it's a personal choice to play this game or not. And should not be interfered with by governments.

The problem is probably really in the money, but I do not think that in taxes. Someone won, someone lost something, what left the country is approximately what came back. It seems to me that the problem is the lack of control over the money turnover. The Internet is blurring the borders and the state is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of money turnover.

The Government has to seek a source of revenue to finance the state's activities, this source may come from poker.

Politicians all over the world feel like they are the only ones smart enough to make important decisions and so they implement policies that allow them to have the power of control over many facets of daily life. That's what politics is about - power and control. One of the things they feel the need to have control over is the ability to track and regulate the flow of money and online poker takes this power of control away from them.

So, as this is a threat to their system, many governments will ban online poker.

Expect to see more governments doing this in the future.

I think some of the problem is that the law makers often are not at easy with the online games at all. Not just the betting ones. However the law makers have more of an excuse to manage the "gambling" sites. you need to remember that many of the lawmakers did not grow-up with mass internet.

As long as poker is an individual sport-game, it is easier for gov't to control our ability to participate. Only by standing as a group can online poker be accessible to us all.We also need to understand our responsibility to pay our taxes as required by every money making venture.
