Recognition as a sport by SportAccord would be great for poker. Fantastic.
Online poker perhaps is closer to eSports (competitive video gaming). Live poker requires mental endurance which has many elements of sport, existing at the intersection of sport, game, leisure, competition and reality TV (think Survivor).
The harder poker works to act like a sport, the better chance of growing interest / audience of non-players via TV, internet, etc. Which brings advertisers, sponsors and other $$ sources to poker other than $$ put up by the players.
