Hey CCers!

Just have to share with you all that I had the chance to do something exceptionally cool last night - a video Q&A interview with our brand new WSOP Main Event Champion Martin Jacobson.

As could be expected, Martin has been doing the rounds in the press lately, but I aimed to strike a different, colloquial tone with him during our time talking. I didn't ask him about things like VPIP, in-game strategies, and specifics of the final table, etc., but rather more "experiential" questions, about ambassadorship, the differences between playing poker with Americans vs. Europeans, what he feels is needed to re-attract "lost poker players" back to the game, etc.

All of this served to make the interview pretty unique among others he's done, and I think it's the types of questions and answers that will resonate with a lot of people here in the CardsChat community.

You're all invited to have a look - I think you'll enjoy and I'd be happy to get your feedback.

Robbie

Very cool Robbie, and thanks for sharing! I really liked the following quote:

"For me it was never really about the money, as weird as that may sound. I didn’t start playing poker to become a millionaire or make a ton of money. If I was able to make enough from it to live on, that was more than enough for me. I just had such a strong passion for the game. That’s one of the recipes for success because if you focus too much on the money it’ll put too much stress on you and won’t benefit you when you’re making decisions."

It says a lot about what should drive your motivation, and maybe implies something near the end about the importance of good bankroll management.

Enjoyed the interview a lot, thanks!

Thank you for sharing. Martin seems to have a solid sense of who he is and as he said, is still working on processing what has just happened. He sounds like he is the kind of person that is willing to help out where he can, without forcing things too much.

He certainly doesn't have the same outgoing personality like a Daniel Negreanu or Phil Hellmuth, but in his own understated way, will make a positive contribution to poker.

The interview was well done.

Good thing he doesn't care too much about the money cause it looks like he may lose half of it in taxes

Great interview Robbie, thanks.

"For me it was never really about the money"
I think if it was seen any other way, it is likely to fail.

Thanks guys... re: being part of CC, I'm happy to be a contributing member of this great community. Ya'll are spearheaded by some great folks :)

Thanks for the compliments about the interview; they're much appreciated and they help keep me motivated to keep on churning out good quality content.

Indeed, Martin lives in London and will be keeping all of his winnings. We did cover "tax stuff" in the interview itself ;-)

And yes, I got that impression that he's happy to help do what he can to advance the game of poker. An all-around easygoing good guy.

That was about Felix Stephenson the second place finisher...and yes, he'll have to forfeit half the winnings to norway in taxes...
