Did anyone else hear about this? I freaking hope this doesn't turn into a trend for other states to follow suit. In Utah, this is what the new law states:

"If any federal law is enacted that authorizes internet gambling in the states and that federal law provides that individual states may opt out of internet gambling, this state shall opt out of internet gambling in the manner provided by federal law and within the time frame provided by that law.

Trend setting & Utah seldom appear in the same sentence.
Wouldn't worry to much about this.

Utah, which has a large Mormon population, and Hawaii are the only two states without any kind of legalized gambling.

I don't get why people feel they can impose their beliefs on others.

The way it works, each state has the right to choose what they prefer, ya want to gamble, don't move to Utah, how hard is that.

As far as I can tell, the only good things about Utah are Monument Valley, Lake Powell, and the snow in winter. In each case if you are enjoying these god given wonders, poker should be the last thing on your mind.

BTW...very very hard to get a drink in UTAH as well.......

Visit the place, but don't move there for the poker......

No danger of moving to Utah anytime soon. My point was that no religion should be able to impose it's beliefs on others. We should have real separation of church and state. I don't want to be wearing a burka should some state end up with a majority of muslims.

The reason we have a republic and not a democracy is the fear of majority rule. James Madison said, "Measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority."

Agreed, but I would guess that the folks who tend toward Moromism, are folks who think the are morally above most others (they have that right) and voted not on some church platform but from some personal moral platform. Would we expect something different from Utah?

I for one, am glad they decided to corral themselves in a single state.:D

That attitude is not confined to Mormons.

And that's the slippery slope, isn't it? ...And why government needs to stay out of what should be personal choices.

It wasn't really that long ago that it required a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT to prohibit alcohol!!!! Stop and think about that for a second.

Now the government is deciding everything, from what drugs are legal to what light bulbs we can use.

Also, those Mormons have multiple wives, I hear, and therefore hardly need gambling to bring risk into their lives. :D
