I find it unacceptable that here in the United States of America, once a beacon of freedom and hope worldwide, online poker regulation is lumped in with some of the few countries who do not regulate it or outright ban it, the likes of Iran and North Korea. Further astounding me is there are politicians accepting "campaign contributions" from Sheldon Adelson, billionaire casino magnate, promoting a federal ban. Right here! In the Land of the Free!

This has progressed to the point that Mr. Adelson's Restoration of America's Wire Act (RAWA) legislation (bought and paid for) has been presented in the Senate by Rep. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on 03/24/14 with three co-sponsors (S. 2159) and an identicial bill presented in the House by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) on 03/26/14 with 18 co-sponsors (H.R. 4301). Both bills have a slim chance of outright passage at this time. However, with the amount of money Mr. Adelson is pouring to lobbyists and donating to politicians, it remains a very real possibility that the bill can be attached at the last minute to must-pass legislation similar to UIGEA in 2006. There is some indication that a Congressional Hearing may be held regarding these bills after the upcoming Congressional break, possibly in November.

Although online poker regulation in the USA may seem a trivial or non-critical issue to some, a federal ban has larger implications. Allowing a billionaire to purchase legislation imposing his outdated views on the general public is wrong, and if one area of internet commerce can be banned, it won't be long before others began seeking a ban on something they don't like or which benefits their personal business interests.

These are politicians we have voted into office and they need to know we do not support these restrictive and archaic bills. Commerce is now routinely conducted online, and online poker is a natural progression. This industry is available to citizens in almost every country globally and has been successfully regulated for over a decade. With the upcoming elections around the corner, now's the perfect time to let them know we want to embrace the existing technology available to provide safe, regulated, US-based sites. I know I don't want to live in the 1950's with the politicians supporting this ban or Mr. Adelson, and right along with the citizens of Iran and North Korea.

With all that said, please consider participating in Rich Muny's Poker Daily Action Plan. Rich works tirelessly day in and day out to get the word out to politicians and the plan only takes a couple of minutes each day to do with fully-editable twitter links and FB links. (Pro tip: hold down the CTRL key when you click each link and you can open them all at once and then bang them out -- seriously, it only takes a couple of minutes each day!) Today's Weekend plan link provided to you below for your viewing pleasure, and it's right here on this very forum.

Players can't just assume that those sinister politicians are doing us dirty and deliberately. Most of them are clueless altogether, and many more simply have never heard from a constituent to whom the issue is important.

It is incumbent upon players to make sure their elected leaders know what is up, not just assume someone else is getting the message through. We are strong together, but we must all use our voice.

Damn, I thought gambling was illegal in Iran (pretty sure it is, but I'll check it out). Guess that mostly leaves us and North Korea then.

GJS70 i understand your feeling about the issues you have presented. i have asked myself wtf are those ppls problems with this game i love so much. oh i come up with a number of answers pro and con. one of the biggest points to all of this is money, power and ability to control the masses. whether it be the moral majority <(lmao) or the extreme left i ask how come this hasnt been settled yet its about time to end these issues. i better leave this at that, i almost got started on a rant of my own and that would take a number of pages and a lot of time which i could use stacking some fish. thanks for the rant GJS70

YW, arizoney. I know it's crazy. Most free countries have been successfully regulating for years now, and here in the US, American poker players have been sitting by for the last three years waiting for regulation while the federal government, state governments, tribes, casinos, lotteries, and horse racing industry, to name a few, are still arguing over whether to regulate it, whether it's safe, and if they do how much money and/or taxes they can make from it.

We need to quit holding this great game of skill hostage and get it regulated already.

If you just assume that your voice does not matter in the process, then you have given up without a fight. That is something you have to own yourself, you can't put that upon others who feel differently from you and made the effort to get what they wanted while you sat on the sidelines and complained.

I want online poker back, not because I'm a pro who lost my livelihood and not because I own a poker site and could make millions. I want it back because I enjoy the game. Wanting it back, though, is simply not enough.

So I act. I write e-mails, I send tweets, I make calls, and lately I get meetings with legislators. See, I didn't make a single call or send just one e-mail. I've been bugging the crap out of them incessantly until they could no longer ignore me. If there were more in my state doing the same, it would get easier and progress would come quicker.

If someone was doing the same in your state, well . . . . it won't just happen because you want it to. It's like Russel says . . . "Dreams don't come true, dreams are MADE true"

You have to work for what you want in life.

First of all i didnt give a fight and second of all if you think that they gonna listen to people like you and me then you sadly mistaken.Sending the email, sending tweets, making calls and having meetings with the legistlators and bugging the hell out of them is a complete waste of time it takes more than.I was just like you But i woke up and realize that reasoning with those goons was not the way to go about things anymore.Black Friday was the turning point of my life i have changed way i see things about this country and this evil government. Those goons are not for the people they are against the people.Someday you people of this country are gonna have to realize that the government doesn't give a damn about us. It's interested in its own power, keeping it and expanding it wherever possible and that the cold reality.

They do listen. Last year, Rep. Mario Scavello from PA wrote, and was ready to introduce, a bill criminalizing playing poker online. The bill contained fines and jail time for players in PA playing online poker. Poker players from around the country responded on his Facebook page, directed there by Rich Muny's Daily Action Plan.

At first, he removed the posts opposing the legislation, but we remained cordial and explained the facts rationally about how bad of an idea it was to criminalize players. Eventually, he began responding to our posts and ultimately decided not to introduce the legislation. As of now, it has yet to be introduced and no players in PA stand the chance of being put in jail for playing poker online at this time.

That's just one instance of what can be accomplished when we all pull together. Politicians may mostly be on the hunt for their next re-election, but they also want votes. If enough poker players make their opinion known, they do listen. There's also money to be made with regulation, and they know that too. We have the facts on our side as well that regulation is the right way to go, as opposed to an unregulated market that provides protections to no one.

if you think that they gonna listen to people like you and me then you sadly mistaken.

Can you not see how self-fulfilling that attitude is? You know what is the first thing I hear from legislators when I talk to them about internet poker?

"I haven't heard from any constituents to whom this issue is important"

and there you have it. You don't tell them because you think they aren't listening. They don't hear from you so they think you don't care.

In one sense, you are right. The politicians aren't going to just up and do it on their own, it takes 'we the people' to let them know what we want. You don't seem to grasp that most elected officials are busy with things far more important, and if you aren't even raising the issue, you can't complain about it being ignored.

Nope, nobody is promising me anything. But I am working the process, as a citizen, as a member of 'we the people.' I don't complain on forums about what I've lost, I put in the work to get it back. I'm also happy to help others to get on track to do the same in their jurisdictions.

I hope others see what I am doing and become inspired to take up the cause themselves, in their own states. There is a lot of adversity along the way, but you just have to persevere.

Great to hear, one thing that sets CardsChat aside from other forums is the friendly way members act towards each other.

There are others lobbying at the federal level. I am focused on state level politics, as I live in the state with the harshest anti-online poker laws on the books.

If you really want to know . . .

My name is Curtis Woodard. I am in the 8th Congressional District and 47th Legislative District of Washington State. I am currently working on a bill at the state level to authorize intrastate/interstate internet poker.

If you want to follow what I am doing, follow my twitter - @ipokerwa

I also contribute to onlinepokerreport.com. You can read up on what I've been up to lately here - http://www.onlinepokerreport.com/13975/update-legal-online-poker-washington-state/

Anyone who wants help getting started working on legislation in their state, feel free to message me here
