What are your thought's on the Global Poker League (GPL)? Is this going to be something that will help move poker forward? Are there any teams that anyone is pulling for? What can they do to improve the format?

Another gimmick. The only thing that will advance poker in the USA, especially tournament poker is regulated online sites increasing new player pool for online play as well as feeding casino rooms and traveling poker tournament series operators stops at different venues. Poker will remain stagnant until that happens (if ever). What the GPL does for the rest of the poker world, my guess is very little.

They must be hoping they can make it into a spectator sport.

Right now, for the participants, it is a zero sum game, less the rake. With sponsors, it could become a sport where participants could actually make money.

I liked the attitude of the GPL, it will be very good for us to see teams playing, after all only have great professional there, then it will be a high-level poker, my fans will be for Sao Paulo Metropolitans.

Another way to corral players into making money for someone else. Another version of an Epic Poker League with a male version of Annie Duke in terms of ethics and respect for the game and players.

wsop, EPT, WPT, etc., the ones who get millions of dollars in selling advertising using players who in many cases buy in with their own money are not reaping any benefits by signing the "TOS" papers prohibiting them for any extra financial gain. Imagine if Will Smith had to pay $10k to act in a movie and not receive any royalties? Sound insane? Well. that is what has been happening since poker has been televised.

With the draft over now, what do you guys think of the GPL teams?

As someone who's from and lives in Montreal, I'm very, very happy that the Montreal team got Martin Jacobson.

What do you guys think about your local team or just the teams in general?

Oh, you mean like football, baseball, basketball, soccer, skiing, MMA, wrestling, rodeo, NasCar, Formula One, and cricket? No one is going to put on a professional event unless there is a profit to be made. If you want to quibble about the splits, fine, but don't blame the WPT, the WSOP, the GPL, fantasy sport leagues and your local card room for wanting to make money. And, yes, if the TOS states that you cannot wear a WPT patch to a WSOP final table, that seems pretty reasonable.

Cheers!

BTW, if you see a movie where the lead actor is also listed as a producer, that generally means that they put money into the project.

Cheers!

Just looked at the website and I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses. Has very good potential to be good poker and good poker to watch. I'll be rooting for Liv and the London Royals, thought (hoped) that Jake Cody would have been part of that, but, do quite like Moneymaker's team too.

i think that we will be seeing Key and Peele doing a sketch making fun of the GPL. i think its just another way to monitize poker fame. kinda silly to me personally but whatever floats your boat.

Agreed - the focus has to be on getting the US back online

Not sure if the sportify poker thing is going to take hold but if used as a growth tool then it may have a chance. No doubting the talent within the league and deep pockets funding it.
