A tennis player signs a sponsorship deal with poker stars, why? What is the point? He doesnt even know how to play poker. A waste of time and money.

Still, how sweet would that be?! You're a high profile this-or-that but don't know how to play poker so the top online site in the world signs you on so you can learn how. Crazy LOL

Very true and I am sure Rafa desperately needs a few dollars sponsorship money. It is not as though he is rich:D:D:D

Errrr probably because he's one of the highest profile sportsmen in the world?

This is massive news, and phenomenally good for poker

Nice break for Nadal. He really needs the money, since his tennis career is going down the drain.

I guess he's just trying to make as much money as he can while he's a recognized pro athlete. Good for him.

lol how is getting more casuals more interested in poker in any way a bad thing from either pokerstars or a player's perspective?

stars get more money, players get more fish and hence more money.

Have to agree with the majority here - everything about it sounds good to me.

Yes yes that's all very well and good, but he doesn't even know how to play poker!

Nadal will be being paid handsomely, but this endorsement will be small fry compared with most of his deals. This deal is for Stars, not for Nadal.

thus making him the first celebrity ever to endorse something they know nothing about!

I'm sure the deal is for both PokerStars and Nadal. It doesn't make sense for Nadal to make this deal if he's not going to make a good deal of money. Besides, is not like PokerStars can't afford it, especially when they know this deal will bring a lot of new players to their room.

Nadal admits to never having played poker in his life. I cant see the point, PS are doing well, Nadal is doing well. it is just an example of this sad celebrity obsessed world.

Seriously? Why does any company sign a sportsman/singer/actor or whatever to represent their product?

Yea - that is just a silly thing to say imo. He is well respected and has fans - there is nothing wrong with that kind of admiration for someone who has done exceptionally well in sports, entertainment or whatever.

Hmm, maybe another poker boom once Pokerstars "rigs" the cards in his favor and everyone sees him winning so they sign up to do the same. ;)

Because I'm sure we all agree poker sites rig their cards and hire people to sit there and deal out the hands manually to favor certain people..

I never really thought about it for more than a second or two before this thread. Everytime I log in it gets shoved in my face and I instantly close it. Big deal I thought, however hopefully this will bring more new players to the game and perhaps give me a better chance of making a profit! It has to be a good thing all up.
