I didn't know that I was breaking the law when I played in these tournaments. I guess the law wasn't enforcing any of those rules.

Those tournaments used used to bring in a lot of customers.:/

The definition of gambling according to "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" is:
Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambling

You have to bet something in value to be called gambling.

But according to merriam webster dictoinary:

Gamble is to "to play a game for money or property"

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gamble

I think the second definition is wrong.
Otherwise all those free enter for a drawing for something in value would be gambling.

I think that the casinos went to the politicians first. There were state law officers there.

That's insane. Check out these two excerpts:

"After a months-long undercover investigation dubbed Operation Cracked Aces, the owner and five employees of the Nutz Poker League were arrested, accused of working for a gambling house. The restaurant owner was charged with keeping a gambling house."

And: "... Nutz players could be slapped with misdemeanor gambling charges, but law enforcement is more likely to impose felony charges on those who run the games."

Shouldn't the police worry and go after real criminals?

"...state agents assisted by Largo police officers interrupted a monthly Texas Hold 'Em tournament..."

Land of the free...

This stuff is insane, so are teh bar leagues next because they offer $1500 wsop seats if you win a tri city tournament. I guess since we have card rooms on every corner, the money to attack everyone flows freely, Just think Mickey mouse has enoughmoney to keep card rooms out of orlando. Hate to hurt the famil friendly image which is another farce

Don't be surprised. US players can't play free rolls on pokerstars now. Did any one argue with pokerstars?

i wish we had these free leagues where i live. I Have a friend, in Virginia, who plays in this type of league at a restaurant all the time. and they win prizes and gift cert for food only also. sounds totally r idiculous, that these restaurants would even get bothered for this.when places hold raffles, u have to BUY a ticket for that to win prizes,,why dont they go a round shutting those down too.

the whole idea of creating law against gambling was to prevent people from losing their own money. Extending it to this level is a real joke.

i can believe it...of coarse your state knows what is best for you...

you will no longer lose, well nothing playing freerolls...

now be quiet, get in your cars, drive to the nearest liquer store and buy a handful of lottery tickets. we offer lotto, powerball, fantasy 5, cash 3, play 4 and scratch offs as far as the eyes can see.

I had a feeling soon enough they would start cracking down on these "pub" poker events. I play often and wondered how they got away with giving out cash prizes for a $20 "buffet" entry with free poker.

Seems to me that the government wants to kill the internet poker because they can't get their hands on some of the money as of yet. They will figure it out soon, I'm sure. The rich get the priviledges and us po folks get the green weenie. You ought to be able to do with your money as you wish. Supposedly a free America.
