Sexism and racism rants in Oregon poker rooms (Video included)

A pair of incidents involving racial slurs, sexist insults, and violent threats occurred at two Portland card rooms, both of which were captured on video. (video included) Have you witnessed anything such as these incidents in a poker room?

Wow just Wow !! They needed a big burly bouncer type guy
or a taser to use on this out of control dude. No excuse for this

I know right?! I was shocked to see all that security but not a single one looked like they could take on the big fella in the video, if they had to.

There is absolutely NO place for this behaviour ANYWHERE including a poker room!

Inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour and racist comments by this self-proclaimed NAZI guy . He deserves a severe punishment so as he , or anyone else like him , won't repeat these words and this kind of behavior in the future .

Yes I have, but I've never heard it at my local casino (I'm fairly certain they'd kick out anyone making racist remarks). I see this online a lot actually though.
swcpoker.eu actually tolerates the use of the n word in lobby chat and refuse to ban people for it if you complain I tried posting about this on here but my post got deleted

EDIT: Ohhh they did end up kicking/banning that guy...What more can the establishment do I guess? I think it was a bit unfair to complain that the guards aren't big enough. Good riddance anyway

He should be banned from every Casino.

There is only one video posted in the news article so I can't comment on the other one.

Pretty sure the player was invited to leave because he was causing a disturbance and threatening other players. Not asked to leave because of anything he actually said "racially".

A good security guard does not need to be big physically to be effective.

Unfortunately I have seen rants like this online as well.

Sometimes people are just not happy about the way hands play out.

there are a lot of such situations in our time.Online it's not so scary, you can just ignore it.But in offline mode, this is often the case.The game does not spare anyone.I lose players are ready to sell their own mother which is very sad(.A good player differs from the mass of people who are not happy with the fact that they can restrain their emotions.

Near the end of the article, it stated the 2nd video was taken down but once (or if ) it resurfaces that we may have it, too.

The video I watched seemed offensive to me in respect to racial slurs. I know some people do not think that the 'n' word is a racial slur but pretty sure I'm not the only one who does. And YES! online poker brings out some of the worst racial and sexist comments ever. There are some really, really angry people out there.

Shells - I'm not "eager" to see the other video LOL

But the guy in the video is Pissed Off about something. Either something the 9-seat did or something the 9-seat said - or both!

This does not excuse his speech. But he is off the rail angry! He is not thinking straight. So much so that security and even the room staff are not sure if the player will get physical - which takes the encounter to a whole new level....police, lawyers, judges and jail.

My point is that even Neo Nazis don't drive around town on a daily basis telling everyone what he thinks of them. Even Neo Nazis need to just get along in daily life. But something un-hinged him here.

I am always amazed that there are not more fights in rooms when someone calls calls calls and then gets there on the river and shoves to receive a $2k pot!

This is a shame. Honestly, this is why I play online. I can't help but feel like there's a lot of guys just like this at live casinos. I wouldn't know how to act/react if someone came at me like this at a casino.
I don't think I'd be able to control myself if he was calling me the N-word to my face like that. Those two have incredible self-control.

I hope this video catches steam and goes viral so that we can expose this "nazi guy" for the piece of trash that he is and hopefully get him fired from his job and/or prosecuted for his hate speech/threatening behavior.

this is terrible, we as people need to be better then this! all of us!!!

I have seen this kind of speech online.

It usually happens after a player loses a hand and then the cuss words and racial slurs come out.

It's supposed to make the loser feel better about themselves because they just see red.

I do agree with you though - reading it online in chat is very different than having a guy 2 feet away from you tell you that he will kill you!

I'm sure this speech is commonplace online, unfortunately, but at least the site I play on censors curse words and racial slurs and gives you the option to mute players with a click.

Still absolutely no excuse for this type of behavior in any case. You can always tell the difference between a losing and winning player by how well or bad they compose themselves after taking a bad beat. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this guy is a loser in more ways than one.

it obviously is here but for me it depends on the context it's put in.
I've had 100's of black friends and we used the word freely without hurt feelings.
the same for women and the "B" word. I have used it many times fondly.

this man should have been removed immediately with as much force as was necessary
and not allowed to continue his rant. JMO

Well turns out you are exactly correct !

This guy is just a loudmouth loser cussing people for apparently no reason other than being drunk?

And for the record online c.a.n. n.o.t. c.e.n.su.r. any words....lol

I think it a stretch to attempt to frame this in any other way than it being an offensive racist act in a public space.

He has one issue at the table with an African American then turns to another African American who was not involved and acts aggressively towards him also- all the time using the 'n' word and cussing. He does not appear drunk to me - though I might hazard a guess he's on speed/amphetamines.

There is no context or excuse.

I also do not subscribe to the idea of this being some kind of exception either - that day to day such types 'get along'. They do not. What minorities have exposed (via police shootings at the most extreme end of the spectrum) is that they are subjected to a constant flow of aggressions - from micro to extreme- where some people think they have the right to be rude, dismissive or even aggressive simply because of their self- perceived station in life.

This yob has likely thrown shade ten thousand times in real life with some unfortunate minority constantly on the receiving end of his ire. They have little recourse but to take it and go about their business whilst 'getting over themselves'.

Also, though the West Coast is generally known as being liberal, like 'anywhere' USA, one can find political extremists. Oregon suffers from having its share of right wing militia/activists and this took place last year...

The Oregon Capitol will be closed on Saturday due to a "possible militia threat" from right-wing protesters as a walkout by Republican lawmakers over landmark climate change legislation drags on...

So, it seems fairly implausible this was a one off outburst and hopefully his banning will raise his profile within other casinos also.

I've played at both those poker rooms, and actually know a few of the bystanders in that video. Both those places are usually totally normal, never seen anything like that before. Obviously that guy has some serious issues he needs to work out. I hope they filed police reports besides just booting and banning him.

This attitude is totally unacceptable .. it seems that all the people who are working in security do not have a profile for this service .. in other places this man would be attacked easily! always sad to see something like that, even more in a poker room .. let it not be repeated anywhere! Play poker and be happy!! Peace and love!!

I'm sorry I weigh 280 lbs which I know is bad, but my point is no matter how large another individual is I am not going to call them fat. Dude is in the same boat. Just thought I would point out the fat shaming on top of the racism and sexism because you guys left that part out. :wink:


Why do I always feel like our education system failed these kind of people? Racist and sexist just always sound extremely stupid to me. Hopefully his dumb ass was in private school or home schooled so I can feel a little better about the state of education in our country.
