Article makes it sound like it's a Nevada issue, but this is about Federal regulation of online poker. Nevada can still get intrastate poker up and running but their hope would be an interstate network which requires Federal legislation of some sort because the UIGEA is still in place.

A perfect microcosm of how difficult it is to get anything accomplished in Washington.

“They say the deadline has passed, but Dean Heller is still meeting with U.S. senators. ... Heller has not given up on this,” Abrams said, explaining that Heller had met with a handful of Senators this week.

But he too, could not refrain from his own politically-charged warning.

“Internet poker will never become legal if Dean Heller is not in the United States Senate,” Abrams said. “You need a Republican to convince other Republicans to get this done. You need a Republican to educate them. He is probably the most relevant person in this process.”

Well, they're pretty efficient whenever they want to go to war with a new country, or do some dastardly thing like that.

I agree. Between bitcoin poker sites popping up and networks like Merge and Revolution willing to take legal risks, I don't really care much about "legal" poker.

It's most likely just gonna be available to their big-shot corporate buddies. Licensing will be hugely expensive or just outright denied to smaller sites, and the product probably won't be that good.

If nothing else, the sites running underground force their hand at offering a better product (i.e. cheaper rake), or no one will really play on the legal/regulated sites. So I prefer to support those sites rather than worry about which pieces of paper stooges in Washington are passing around.

Dang I didnt realize things are gettting worse not better. on a Intrastate level , I cant see more than a few hundred being on any site at any given time, wow this whole thing is a mess. I remember in 2004 this plummber came to my house and had to redo all the plumbing and was excitied cause he said he lost $600 playing online poker last night and was gonna do it again the next night, Shit just went over my head, I didnt realize there were probably 1000 of these types just in my county not even the state. (I never even played holdem til 2010) and these folks will probably never return

Back in about 2001 ( a lil off topic but just curious how this went down) people used to email us all the time about opening up an online poker site, all you had to do with get the domain name and they would handle the rest but their was limited time. So how did this work, when everything hit the fan, Id be the one in trouble since they were handling everything else except the US legal stuff did yall get emails like this, anyone try it out
