Hi All,

i have just heard that Daniel Negreanu tipped $20,000 to the dealers out of his $3 million win, i think its a very decent thing he did..its not about his win, its about the man and i salute him for that.

Well done Daniel..a class act as ever

The reason you most likely heard about it is some people think it was a bad tip, it was less than 1% of what he won and he has stated in the past that 2 or 3% is pretty standard, that would be $60,000 or $90,000 in this case.
Personally I think that it was too much. I understand that dealers survive on tips but the prize payouts in highrollers are so big that they should not expect a tip based on a percentage in those tournaments but should get a tip based on fairness and reason. What is fair and reasonable? I would say (even though I detest Daniel Negreanu) he was more than fair and was pushing reason with his tip.

I tip based on performance. Win or lose.

Sloppy, slow, or excessively chatty dealers can expect to get less from me.

One thing I NEVER do, however, is blame them for my cards.,

In cash games, I give tip by win or lose, I believe that nobody win alone, but dealers they can help or unlucky the players. So no dealers no game.

All depends of the cards!

if you tip 25% of you winnings then you won't have much moolah left

25/3 = less than 10% each

which is totally cool for winning your first tourney on your first trip to vegas.

what goes around, comes around.. gotta give to receive ;) first of many... and tbh, i havent tipped since lol.

and trust me, a fifty dollar tip may have made his night but it still doesnt compare to 20k lol. do dealers pay tax on tips in vegas? thats the real question lol

Kid Poker

Hi guys

Thanks for expressing interest in this thread, some interesting reactions, interesting because Daniel never discloses what he tips (his own words) so i think its fair to acknowledge and distinguish that firstly he is not obliged to tip (however non etiquette that is) and secondly the amount is immaterial..the fact that he does regardless of the overall stakes/win shows he has respect for the professionalism of the game as well as maintaining his own image.

I always tip in live poker regardless of the win or lose - sometimes at our local casino, we are asked in non dealer dealt games for volunteers, if its not me then i will always offer to at the very least buy the dealer a couple of beers or something to eat..

Its the way we roll that makes us who we are :):)

Many thanks for your posts

If this is true then why does he continue to represent a business that doesn't have poker player's best interest at heart... instead continue to rape the players making many of the games unbeatable (especiallly for recreational players). And why does he stand by comments like 'More Rake is better for the players'? Guy seems pretty self-centered, narcissitic & pompous to me.

Hi There,

thats a totally different conversation my friend and at the end of the day, not one i wish to get involved in. I was only expressing my opinion on what i considered as a generous gesture, your opinion is valid but for something else.

good point and well made but not relevant to where i am at. :)

Tipping is always good form. % is always a good guideline but in poker as in every other job that gets tips it should be used with a dash of commensence.

I say it was more than fair.

When the stakes get that high, I don't think they can expect the same %.

I'd rather see him give the rest to charity than to the dealer.

That seems like a generous tip! I've always wondered what the high rollers tip the dealers.

Nonsense. Victoria Coren won £500 000 and tipped £50 000, gave money to broke friends. It was her first big tourney, yet needed to pay mortgage.

He also let the door slam in one of the employees faces after bragging to her that he won 3 million, as he was leaving in one f his vlogs the other day, it really surprised me how rude it was. I mean at least hold the door for the lady lol.

Maybe 2nd place finish brings out bad

From what I read above seems that his 2nd place finish did disappoint him a bit. Sounds like he took it out on the tip and some bad manners leaving the place. Watching him heads up looked like he was ready to grind it out but could also see some of the fatigue setting in. His departure from small ball play to jam his stack in on the straight draw was not a move I am used to seeing from him. Might of worked if he was not up against a set. Anyway, $3,000,000 for 2nd place. Little over $1,000,000 goes to uncle sam. Take care of the swaps. Would guess he is paying $20,000 tip out of his end that maybe looks more like $1,600,000 take home. On another note he sure was watching D'negs so distracted with the hockey game while at the FT.
