pokerstars is talking to loto-Quebec and may be offered a legal license to operate in Quebec Province!

Woot. This would be good news for me. I live just over an hour from Montreal and would consider renting an apartment there (2nd living space) if I could play PS up there! Since there is like No chance of PS coming to Vermont anytime soon, this would be as close as it gets for the near future :)

Hopefully them getting bought out will help them return to the US market again. Poker would shoot off again if they came back. When they do come back lets hope that we can play on the international site and not just against US players.

It seems more likely to me that PS will get to play in NJ first but it will be "only" NJ players vs each other. PS likely will only go for "regulated" markets in the US to avoid situations that got PS in trouble in the first place. NJ doesn't seem to want to share player pools, so PS likely won't be able to either. Hopefully that changes though.

You do realize that if you were to rent that living space up in Montreal today you could be playing on Pokerstars with ROW players.

My understanding from the article above is that Loto-Quebec is the only legal Poker software in Quebec due to the government having total control of gambling in Quebec. Amaya is from Quebec but can't legally facilitate online gambling there. The deal between Loto-Quebec and Amaya would allow PS a license in Quebec. The deal is not done yet. But once it is, then yes, I could play Internationally from my "Montreal Residence."

Is Quebec the only province of canada that doesn't allow PS legally?

The article seems to imply that PS is operating in Quebec.. but currently in a "shady" legal situation.

I thought online gaming was legal in Canada. Is it not? Is it only certain territories?
