This is quite interesting because Atlantic City is crumbling, neighboring states are relaxing their regulations on non-reservation casinos, weekly fantasy sports are softening the public's view of sports-betting, stock market forecasts are bearish, and pokerstars was able to weaken the post black friday argument that online poker was a ponzi scheme by absorbing Full-Tilt's debt. Not to mention that shady sites like Bovada, Americas Cardroom, and BetOnline are still aggressively raking American card players. I think that this will be a very interesting year where the success of New Jersey players on PokerStars might dictate whether congress becomes trusting of international play, develops a stance that all play must be confined to locations within the union, or simply grows further unaccepting of poker.

quoted from the OnlinePokerReport article

"This year, PokerStars made its first foray into daily fantasy sports, buying a site called Victiv, and rebranding it as StarsDraft. So, technically, PokerStars was already back in the U.S., albeit in an unregulated industry."

does anyone else have a problem with this ...........

reeks imho

The main question, PokerStars will operate in the states as the network ( like PS france or PS Spain) or the Americans will be able to play with all players ?

The Dampening

this is a huge moment in the history of America

A little over optimistic. It's just in the struggling New Jersey market, with no interstate or international play. It is some progress, but not great progress.

Cheers!

Real question is what does this mean exactly. Anyone know more info on this? Or are we all waiting to hear more. So many questions.

Pokerstars will be in NJ with NJ players alone. They will be ring fenced from international pools, and they have no options in NV or DE*.

That said, gaining license in NJ makes it, in my opinion, awful hard to deny them a license in other jurisdictions if/when they move forward with legislation.

*DE has an exclusive deal with 888, so there will be no Pokerstars there while that deal is in place. NV has bad actors language that keeps Pokerstars out until at least 2018. NV may choose to amend that statute before then, or may not.

This is probably the end of the line for 'bad actors' and 'tainted assets' arguments, however. It seems to me that trying to deny a company licensed in the US from operating in a state where it is legal to do so runs afoul of the dormant commerce clause.

I hope they would have a date, but me being in Texas is still not a great news since I won't be able to play anyway.

This is so awesome to read/hear about. I hope they spread all over the US soon because I really do not want to move to New Jersey to lose my money.

The same state that denied Poker Stars in buying and operating out of the AC Hilton, now approves them for online?

That seems a bit dumb not to save a hotel and have also a destination for us not in NJ to go. Imagine the games their with Poker Stars pro's and the attraction of big time events.

This is really exciting. Especially for our east coast brothers and sisters.

They will be open - for NJ residents only.

Not East Coast - just in the very small state of NJ. :)

Residency is not a requirement to play on NJ sites, only your presence in the state.

Those east coast states are all clumped together, and players in a lot of states have but an hour drive to NJ to be able to play. If you're in Philly or NYC you only need to cross the bridge. Same with Delaware. Maryland is a little further drive, but you get the picture . . .
