pokerstars framed their own Team Pro

Jamie Staples, a member of Team PokerStars Online, travels through Europe with her brothers, Matt and Chris. He plays poker and runs streams from different cities.

The guys spent some time in Vienna (austria), spent a month in Split (Croatia), and then went to Romania, namely to its capital - Bucharest. The brothers arrived in the place after the 21-hour move, but there they were awaited by unpleasant news.

It turned out that Staples simply can not play poker in Romania, despite PokerStars' assurances in the opposite. In his video blog called "I can not believe that this happened", the frustrated Jamie told the details. It turned out that before the trip his contact at PokerStars assured him that there would be no problems when playing and streaming from Romania. But when in Bucharest Jamie tried to go into the poker client, he simply was not allowed!

Tweet of one of the brothers

"The most interesting thing is that we were going to stay in Romania for 45 days. Already found housing, a gym, were completely ready for streaming. "
Here's the thing: Staples can not play on PokerStars on the territory of Romania, as he is Canadian. He has a .com account, and to play in Romania you need an account .eu. But even the employees of PokerStars did not know in advance that this will happen.

Subscribers on Twitter immediately began to give various advice to the poker player, among which you can see offers to play and stream the game in other poker rooms (for example, 888). But Staples replied:

"I'm a member of Team Online, and I only play on PokerStars."

Most likely, the brothers will be forced in the near future to completely change their plans and move to another country.

This is sad (for Jamie), pathetic (for poker stars), but hilarious for bystanders. One would think that those in charge of helping to schedule this would be aware of the issue beforehand.

Pokerstars dropped the ball on this one. How can you fault the Staples clan for this. If Pokerstars would have done their homework correctly, the clan wouldn't have had to go through this. Especially when Jaime was playing the best poker of his career lately on the site.

I hope it has been reimbursed. Anyway, this is strange, even because the company should have knowledge about it previously.

If he's residing in an EU country can he not open an EU account and play? If I understand it right restrictions on play are strictly based on country of residence and not citizenship. For e.g. I used to play on PS when I was based in the UAE. They blocked UAE and various other countries in 2014. When I moved away I was able to play again after I was able to provide proof of residence.

Besides, having a separate EU account makes sense if he travels as frequently as he claims to do.

its not really pokerstars' fault. technically he can play in Romania if he opens up a .eu account. i'm sure no one from pokerstars knew that his account would be blocked or else they wouldn't have told him he could play from there. I'm positive that they didn't set him up as he has millions of viewers on twitch and pokerstars wouldn't want the bad press.. honest mistake!

they are set up in Cardiff now and I imagine he probably got cut a check for the inconvenience anyway
