pokerstars is taking legal action against PTR.

http://pokerfuse.com/news/law-and-r...hes-legal-battle-against-poker-table-ratings/

Currently PTR appears to be completely down.

I know I am in the minority here but I liked the PTR. Their presence helped catch a lot of botters and colluders and outed a lot of scammy "coaches" who it turned out were not exactly the beasts that they claimed to be.

Of course this will help the fish to keep lying to themselves and click the deposit button again so that is good. I just don't like the idea that we are now even more dependent on sites having good security teams.

I think they should take action, this would be absolutely amazing if they managed to get it shut down permanently. I can't stand data mining sites and all this selling hands etc..

PTR should have been gone years ago. It's good that Stars is going after them but man it took long enough. PTR is in no shape/form/fashion good for the game at all, it's cons far outweigh the 1 pro.

Haven't looked but if this is the case (up for some, still down for others) my guess would be that they moved their web servers to a different IP (probably different country) and the downtime/staggered return is due to DNS propagation.

As far as Stars going after PTR, I doubt they have legal standing to do so but I hope they shut them down forever.

They actually do have the legal standing to do so being as PTR broke a few of the TOS rules for Stars among other things.

I don't speak lawyer too much but I would have to think breaking the TOS for a company can be prosecuted in some shape or fashion.

*edit*

Copy/pasted this from a post on 2+2 in the thread they have about it there:

yeah especially considering ptr are based in london, as in english law actually respects intellectual property.

What went on was blatantly data mining of intellectual property, not to mention agreeing to pokerstars ts and cs and then totally ignoring them. Stars have a ton of different things to use- they should pursue damages as well to hurt them :p Fwiw i signed up with ptr but what its done to heads up cash especially is a disgrace

Either way I just hope PTR goes away because I hate dealing with bumhunters all day long. They're too bad to play just anyone and lean on PTR like a crutch and it tilts me to no end.

On that we agree. PTR has basically killed most HU action.

Yeah i've been wanting to play some 50HU for a while but its actually laughable when you load up the 50HU lobby on stars.

Literally like 20 or 30 tables with a reg sitting down. So i PTR any one of them and theyre like up 50k running 10BB/100 over huge samples. Pretty crazy. And ironic that i PTR'd them too.

Yea I've looked at taking shots at cash HU but when I look at the tables it's a fcking disgrace. That's why most action is at HU SnG because at higher stakes it's just KOTH format which is what they should make HU cash lobbies imo.

How do they manage to get all the data?
I would say the poker sites should tighten up their security to stop these bots mining data.
As bots aren't supposed to be allowed.
I would also like to know who is observing the table, so an observer list would be a quite useful feature and shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

ITS GONE! Searched myself on PTR and now i think to make your profile public on PTR, you have to message stars support! weeeeeee games should be better at HU and stuff for sure!

Top winners of the month/year etc are also not there, so yeah must be settled now. no more stars tracking unless you opt in.

What about poker-edge, isn't that similar though not public?

Also i'm sure there are alternatives. If you play 50NLHU it won't be hard to find the goods regs after a few weeks.

Poker-edge is pretty much banned everywhere and against ToS. This won't completely get rid of bumhunting problems but it's definitely a huge stride in the right direction.

Surely PTR only affects people who play high/mid stakes. The player pool is just to big in the lower end to even bother checking ptr.

meh, not really

I mean define "mid" stakes bc you won't find a game at 50nl hu...sometimes even 25nl hu

But ya, obv worse as it gets higher
