According to reports; Phil Ivey has filed a lawsuit against crockfords casino for withholding his winnings back from back in August 2012.

I think most heard about it; back in August last year; he won £7.8million ($12.1m) and it was reported they had withheld his winnings.

Phil Ivey statement;

Commenting on the suit, Ivey said:

“I am deeply saddened that Crockfords has left me no alternative but to proceed with legal action, following its decision to withhold my winnings. I have much respect for Gentings, which has made this a very difficult decision for me.

“Over the years I have won and lost substantial sums at Crockfords and I have always honoured my commitments. At the time, I was given a receipt for my winnings but Crockfords subsequently withheld payment. I, therefore, feel I have no alternative but to take legal action.”

Be interesting to see how this progresses. As always will be two sides to the story and hopefully we will get to hear both.

I'm surprised the casino hasn't offered to settle. It's been what, six months already?

Hopefully he gets his money. I don't think he would sue them unless he feels he deserves the money and they had no reason to hold it.

After reading the article it sounds like Phil was either duped or blackmailed into trying to scam the casino. Surely he should know that winning such a large amount and having a suspected cheater at your side would raise suspicions. There has to be more to the story than what we know. If we are to take the casino's word that her and Phil indeed asked for some cards to be rotated, then he could be throwing good money after bad by suing.

I read about that. The casino think Phil Ivey was cheating with a woman, but this is was proved with the security camera of the casino.

Even if Ivey did know about the cards this is still not cheating. If I am sitting at a poker table and a player does not protect his hole cards and I can see them I will use that info, I am not cheating but rather he didn't protect his investment. The casino may have a lawsuit against the card manufacturer but should pay Phil his winnings.

Interesting...the last time I heard about this story I just figured the casino just decided to stiff Ivey. Now I guess they actually have a reason (or at least, are gonna try to prove that they have a reason...)
I'm hooked again

this game is all information.

if ivey know , why not use it. it is very fair , he is not cheating.

casino let Ivey to see the back of the cards, and the design of the cards has fault by the cards themselves.

so, Ivey deserves what he earns.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out - whose responsibility is it to ensure fair cards?

Those are some big accusations. Phil Ivey is obviously gonna buy the best laywer money can buy and I see this law suit ending up in his favor.

Dont casinos inspect each deck of cards? I know it would probably be hard for them to notice that something is wrong with the pattern on the back of the cards and same with a player at the casino.

The only thing I do not understand is.. What is up with this girl? And who is she? She makes the whole thing kind of suspicious.

The Daily Mail is not credible at all. It's like TMZ in the UK. Ivey didn't do anything wrong and he should get the money he is owed. Even though the cards may have had tiny flaws, that is the casino's fault, not Ivey's.

Here is a Yahoo article on this situation:

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/the-turnstile/phil-ivey-british-casino-embroiled-dispute-over-payment-032520482.html

I saw no difference in the two stories.

As far as Ivey goes, the integrity of the cards/games falls on the casino not the player. I will also say that if he had walked after the second night with 2.3 mil no-one would have been the wiser but he was greedy and milked it for all he could.

Yeah I get the idea Phil Ivey tried to scam the casino. His reputation was ruined with FTP imo. There is no way Phil Ivey wasn't complicit in the FTP scam... he was too big of a part of the company. He bets way to much on dice and is a general degen. I think Ivey is pretty shady.

After reading the original story, back when he won this money some months ago, I wanted to know what had happened afterwards: Did the Casino pay him the money or not. Thanks for the story, ramdeebam.

Read the article and if this is true and the cards had a flaw and he noticed it, how can that be reason to withheld the money he won? I mean, he didn't brought the cards to the Casino to play with them, the Casino provided these cards, so that's not cheating, that's just a the mistake of the Casino (they should have checked the cards). In any case the Casino could sue the cards manufactures to try to make them pay for Ivey's win.

It is nonesense IMO that the Casino refuses to pay Ivey based on the pattern of the back of the cards, hope he gets his money.

The only way they shouldnt pay him is if they could prove he had inside information from someone who worked for the card manufacturer.
He gained an edge by noticing the marks, its not his responsibility to tell them.
Otherwise its like he had a tell on a player eating oreos and didnt tell the guy and won $$$$ of him
