It is not news that on May 1st, three states will have interstate player pool sharing ahead of the wsop events. What's not well-known is that the use of HUDs will be strictly prohibited.

Per the WSOP website on HUD usage since Nevada strictly prohibits the usage of HUDs and other States have no policy to this regard, it was deemed unfair to allow them in one State and not the other. Therefore, to level the playing field, all HUDs will be prohibited.

Furthermore, you will not be able to download hand histories with the new client software. All hand histories have to be requested via Customer Service. Reviewing hands via Replay will still be available though.

IMO, this is a good thing for two reasons. First, not all people online use HUDs. I am in that camp because I can't afford one right now. I can safely say that there is a large majority of online players that either are not aware of them, can't afford them, or if they have one, don't know how to use them effectively.

Second, making it harder to get hand histories is a good thing. I will put this in the "what is good for a bot, is bad for us humans" category. With huge leaps in AI technology, access to huge amounts of data in this day and age is downright scary. Bots can be built to analyze every play you make, crunch the numbers, and outplay you every step of the way. The more data they collect on individuals, the smarter they get.

So, what say you all? There is a poll attached to this thread -- so if you can explain the reasoning for your vote it would be appreciated.

Hopefully, this will be a general worldwide LAW soon.
I don't want to know, how many players made wrong decisions by "not or wrong maintained" databases, but they won anyway, lol.
Oh, he is a LAG, I have to raise him with my jack, lol.:icon_clow
But he doesn't recognize, that I'm almost always bigstacked and can call whatever I want.

Poker is a mind game, never mind!

That's sounds good!
This kind of law will bring us back to the old days. It will be a game played merely by humans.

So true. It's one thing to get beat by a person. It's another when a human uses crutches to gain unfair advantage over another.

Here is a thought. Everyone has heard of Google Glasses right? What if there were a HUD inside a pair of those and you took it into a live tournament?

I think there are Apps you can use on your phone and input the data as it' played and will give you info like a hud. I guess you'd have to keep up with it, but I dunno how google glass would do it.

Bluetooth it. Have a partner input it for you. Little tricky, but possible. I am sure nobody would like HUDs then.

True, I'd think that'd be borderline, if not all the way, cheating.
Also, a lot of places say you can't be on the phone while in a hand, so I think the manual HUDs have to be done in between hands or while your not in a hand.

I wasn't trying to condone cheating, LOL ;)

Manual HUDs? What are those and can people actually use them in a tournament?

SUch a stigma, just ban them all together. Ive come to the conclusion that the real poker players arent using them as much as I thought anyways, or at least to the degree i thought. So just ban them so no one gets rig itis

AND WE AS PLAYERS CAN HELP GET USA SET US AS WE WANT AND IF WE KEEP IT CLEAN FROM THE START, and just throw people using this stuff in jail FOR LIFE!!!! ok that might be extreme

That's a YES in the "you can't have your pudding, if you don't eat your meat" category. It seems that most people lean this way too.

my opinion:
- poker client should provided all allowed info online (either with or without HUD)
- I would not be surprised if to date rooms get paid to provide interface to hud makers

As for hand history:
- use a video recorder and do post tournament analysis (and type in all data you want in a database)

Hence why I enjoy live poker over online.

So, the poker rooms are getting a rake on HUD sales? Interesting thought.

Instead of a video recorder, just use something like SnagIt/Camtasia studio to capture video from the screen. You can also download the hand histories which are timestamped to sync up with your video.
