AC is drowning in debt and in 2014 when table games will be legalized in NY they will disappear like Atlantis unless they restructure heavily. I wouldn't be surprised seeing online poker by end of 2014 in NJ as an attempt to help them out, I just don't think that the player pool will be enough to save them.

OH!!! I'm real excited about this i read an article back when christie vetoed the first bill in which many people felt he did this because he was being considered for the vice presidential nomination with Mitt Romney.. prior to this he was quoted saying “I think New Jersey should be in that business (of online gaming).” I really HOPE and believe that now that the election is over he will see the positive impact online poker could have in Atlantic City with the casinos opening in Philadelphia and soon to be New York.. This would just make me the happiest little New Jerseyan ever..

Wow this bill is even better than i thought... It will allow Atlantic City to take bets from ALL STATES as long as it complies with federal law... now this probably means the casino/sportsbetting side would be only for NJ but poker could open up to the whole us being that the DOJ says online poker isnt illegal.... NJ killin it for the whole US!!!

State Assembly Passes New Jersey Online Gaming Bill

Bill A2578 passed the New Jersey Assembly on Monday, which would authorize casinos in Atlantic City to offer a full slate of internet gambling to state residents. The measure passed by a tally of 48-24 with 4 abstentions.

The next step for the bill will be a vote in the State Senate scheduled for Thursday.

State Senator Raymond Lesniak—the state’s leading online gambling proponent—told Chris Krafcik of Gambling Compliance that he was “confident” there is enough support in the Senate to pass online gambling legislation.

If successful in the Senate, it will be presented to Governor Chris Christie to sign into law.

Christie vetoed similar legislation in 2011. However, that was before the US Department of Justice revised its opinion that it no longer considers online gaming to be in violation of the Wire Act. Supporters of the bill hope this go around will be different.

Earlier this year, in reference to online gaming, Christie remarked, “I think New Jersey should be in that business. I think we should be an epicenter for that business.”

Online gaming legislation was then promptly reintroduced, but even though the Governor’s staff worked closely with Senator Lesniak to craft a bill to the Governor liking, efforts to pass online gaming legislation earlier this year stalled.

Since then Delaware has legalized online gaming, federal efforts to pass online gaming legislation have failed and Nevada continues to move closer to launching its online poker program—now expected in early 2013.

Two weeks ago, a New Jersey Assembly Committee revised and reintroduced A2578. One change was the removal of language that sought to ban companies and their assets from entering the market if those companies offered online wagers to US residents after December 31, 2006.

Last week, it was learned that PokerStars is in “advanced talks” to purchase an Atlantic City casino which would presumably allow them to enter the online poker market upon the passage of legislation.

Well im not 100% sure about this but what i understand is that in order for stars to be available for anyone it first must have servers in NJ... which is why the rumors of them buying the atlantic city casino is so important.. and the new bill says that players from all states will be allowd to play as long as it doesn go against federal law.. and since the DOJ said.the online gamblin laws dont apply to poker im assuming the whole us will be allowed to play pokee just not the casino or sports betting part.. this is just my understanding im not.sure tho

I listened to the radio show live. Sure didn't sound like he's going to sign it. If you live in NJ you should be calling his office and telling him to sign the bill.
