Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is building on the low-grade rivalry between Las Vegas and Atlantic City by urging lawmakers to pass a bill to expand the state's online gambling market nationwide.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie suggested Thursday that he'd be open to legalizing some form of online gambling.
Sandoval said Friday that the statement underscored the urgency of acting quickly to put Nevada at the forefront of the burgeoning market.
Assembly Bill 5 would allow Sandoval to enter into agreements with other governors to let companies offering online poker in Nevada accept wagers from players in other states.
The Republican Sandoval said he wanted the bill passed within 30 days, and announced that Democratic Assemblyman William Horne would carry the proposed legislation.

"Yesterday, I met with Assemblyman William Horne regarding online gaming legislation. I am pleased that the Assemblyman has offered to carry legislation allowing for the establishment of online gaming in our state and help Nevada maintain its position as the gold standard in gaming.
"In light of the developments in New Jersey yesterday, the need to act quickly has become even more important, a fact that both I and Assemblyman Horne agree on. This bill is critical and Assemblyman Horne and I believe that this should get done within 30 days"
