Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is building on the low-grade rivalry between Las Vegas and Atlantic City by urging lawmakers to pass a bill to expand the state's online gambling market nationwide.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie suggested Thursday that he'd be open to legalizing some form of online gambling.

Sandoval said Friday that the statement underscored the urgency of acting quickly to put Nevada at the forefront of the burgeoning market.

Assembly Bill 5 would allow Sandoval to enter into agreements with other governors to let companies offering online poker in Nevada accept wagers from players in other states.

The Republican Sandoval said he wanted the bill passed within 30 days, and announced that Democratic Assemblyman William Horne would carry the proposed legislation.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval made the following statement:

"Yesterday, I met with Assemblyman William Horne regarding online gaming legislation. I am pleased that the Assemblyman has offered to carry legislation allowing for the establishment of online gaming in our state and help Nevada maintain its position as the gold standard in gaming.

"In light of the developments in New Jersey yesterday, the need to act quickly has become even more important, a fact that both I and Assemblyman Horne agree on. This bill is critical and Assemblyman Horne and I believe that this should get done within 30 days"

Nice country out that way. I use to live out in Grass Valley, lol. Or Nevada City. But they were in the Sierra's. Reno was not too far away, think a 45 minute drive if I remember correctly. Great part of the country to live, I sure do miss those mountain tops and cold rivers.

85 miles north of you past the shoe tree:flybye:

I read somewhere that somebody either cut down the shoetree or "F"ed it up somehow. Shame if true.

Here's the story...

From the Las Vegas Sun:
Nevada passes online poker bill, but gaming software not yet approved

Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 | 2:33 p.m.
CARSON CITY — Even though the Legislature rushed through a bill on Internet poker Thursday, the state has yet to approve the software to allow the game to be offered to the public.
The Assembly and the Senate gave unanimous approval to the emergency measure, and Gov. Brian Sandoval held a quick signing ceremony.
But A.G. Burnett, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, said today the computer systems to put the game online are still being tested.
“We have to certify that the software meets state standards,” Burnett said. “The technicians are moving full steam ahead.”
He had no estimate when the first system would be approved.
The state Gaming Commission has issued licenses to nine operators to enter the online poker market. The 2011 Legislature opened the door for companies to offer Internet poker within Nevada.
The bill approved Thursday allows Nevada to sign agreements with other states to offer Internet poker.
Sandoval asked the Legislature to approve the bill within 30 days of the start of the session so Nevada could be the first to enter the field. New Jersey is considering a similar bill.
Sandoval said the bill would “usher in the next frontier of gaming in Nevada. This bill is critical to our state’s economy and ensures that we will continue to be the gold standard of gaming regulation.”
A bill in Congress to permit Internet gambling on a national level has been bottled up.

I can't wait until some of the sites launch here in Nevada... South Point Casino was supposed to be the first to launch real money poker for Nevada player's but got delayed?

Anyway... its nice to live in the only state that has legalized online gaming fully.

So So happy :)

Only state until later today when Chris Christie signs the internet gambling bill in NJ. NV will have legal internet poker. NJ will have legal online gambling(poker,bj, slots, blah blah blah). NJ will also have pokerstars. NV won't have anything to do with them.
