It is good for poker - he is a well-known and respected athlete who has reportedly retired from swimming. We would welcome him into our poker world!

He has shown interest in poker for a while now - hope to see him at the Rio!

Does his previous issues w/ Marijuana raise any concerns?

I thought he played an event last year too... nope... just cash games. He's also a huge golf nut... But I guess when you retire young with assets over $45M, you have to have some hobbies.

I don't think it'll be an issue - the kind of people who are likely to be outraged by it are probably already against gambling as well, so it's not likely to change anyone's mind on the issues at hand.

I can only see this being a good thing for poker.

Not to mention hard work and dedication, which I would assume he also has some experience with. Actually, I think hard work is more important to poker success than being "smart."

NO, not at all. You do realize that even after all that happened, he still participated in future Olympic events, right? If the Olympic committee has no issues w/ it, then why would anyone else in the world?

I can’t see how this would affect his playing in the WSOP?

Not if he shares....

HaHa

Poker is an outstanding hobby :top:

The most decorated Olympian of all time playing poker on a national scale can only be positive points for the poker world...the end.

Just read this article about Michael Phelps playing in his first WSOP event. Is this the start of a possible career after swimming for him? He is good friends w/ a few pros like Esfandiari and Ivey. Anyone think this is good or bad for poker?
