The legalization of poker in this country is on the way but I wonder if it can actually pass all the hurdles in an election year.
The campaigns are all running on 'family values', religious rights and the Republicans are looking for a conservative candidate
to take on Obama.
Passing a 'gambling' bill (in spite of the fact that poker is a game of skill) is going to be hard.
If they do pass it it will be after the elections, and who ever wins
the elections will use it to promote job creation, revenue raising and an example of government
allowing the people to have the freedom to do what they want.
(In spite of the fact that they were the ones who took it away to begin with)

Just my 2¢

The DoJ is doing its best to make us suffer until then as in stopping EverLeaf poker from allowing US players. All we can do is hope.

Hope this is true but I think it very unlikely. The Congress cant get anything passed. Seems our system of government is flawed. If it doesn't fit into the party's agenda they block it from proceeding. We put the decisions in these elected officials that don't have our best interests in mind. Where or where did the will of the people fail. Think is pretty funny that the republicans say "Don't tell me what to do with my money" yet say we cant use our money to gamble. I believe in the constitution but also think that it needs to change with the times. 541 people decide what 311,800,00 want seems bit off kilter.

Yes, but remember, it's me and you that supposedly put the 541 people in office that tell the 311,800.00 people what they can and cant do.

I agree. Every and any piece of legisation seems to come down to the very very last minute anymore....Its all about who can hold their breath longer and make the other guy come up for air... Its just unrealistic to think that that anything is gonna get done by these clowns.

I admire your optimism but it seems you may be presuming that they give a rats ass what you or I think. Dont get me wrong.. I want legal poker as much as the next person, but I just dont see it happening except perhaps on some God awful state by state basis where everyone can only play in their own backyard and boy what fun that would not be.

My guess is that they will tack this on other legislation just like they did with the anti-gambling provision of the bill in 2006. Looks like the big vegas operators are gearing up (MGM and party poker) to make it happen.

During the video the MGM ceo does say "with the Superbowl coming up soon.......". So I assume it's about a month or so old. Why air a 1 year old video now?

Sounds good fom over here in Europe [ we need US players as much as they need to play ]but is it just speculation or is there anything substantial behind it I wonder.

Poker won't be legislated before the November election most likely. They recently had tried to attach some poker legislation on the recent Payroll tax cut bill but it didn't take. The best thing we can do as poker players is to tweet and send emails to our congressmen.

I highly recommend those that are interested in the subject to regularly visit the PPA's website and follow the poker legislation forum on 2+2.

All the major poker news site already said it not going to happen this year. Senate Majority Leader Harry Ried says online poker bill is not in the cards this year. So it not going to happen this year. Maybe 2013. Too bad

Senior officials in the US government, Joe Barton and Barney Frank, have long been trying to lobby for his bill to legalize online poker at least in several states of the country. They joined the super-committee, knowing that the number of votes - their strength. But the committee also comprised some senators, including Sen. Jon Kyl, periodically change their minds.
