Why are you permitted to play online poker on most sites, all but 4 months in others and not at all on a few if you live in Florida?
Why are you permitted to play online poker on most sites, all but 4 months in others and not at all on a few if you live in Florida?
Just like I said. I play at one site that only allows me to play all but 4 months of the year. Another I tried to join said I couldn't play at all because I live in Florida. There are others that allow me to play all year long. So my question is, does anyone know why?
I live in Florida and I've never had a problem playing at any of the US-legal sites. Which site can you only play "all but 4 months of the year"? And which site couldn't you join because you live in Florida? (There are a couple that are only legal in Nevada or New Jersey or maybe another state or two.)Just like I said. I think there maybe some confusion here. I don't believe there are any sites that have time restrictions like that... Do you mean all but 4 states? Because there are exactly 4 states which have passed bills and now regulate online poker/gambling such as NJ and DE who have their own regulated poker sites. Those 4 states can not play in the same poker rooms as others - Florida is not one of those states, and can play in the same poker sites as the majority of America.
Also this probably should be posted in the general poker thread as a question, and not under news.
Oh, well I've never heard of that before. Sorry. I live in Tennessee and I can play on the WPN and that's pretty much it, but I can play all year long. There are many sites such as poker stars, 888, party poker that are not US friendly unless you live in New Jersey or Las Vegas for (WSOP.com) What site said you could only play for 4 months out of the year?
Clubwpt does not allow people from Florida to play all year there are 4 months March, June, September,, and December that you are not permitted to play, I also tried to play at. I believe it was Party Poker but I couldn't swear to it and they forbid Florida players. Most allow people to play all of the time.

Do you have a link to a web page or a screenshot noting this restriction? Have you been playing on Club WPT for years and every March, June, September, and December you are locked out? Is there any other online aspect of your life that has similar restrictions? Did you used to play from another state and since you moved it has changed?Clubwpt does not allow you to play in March, June, September and December if you are from Florida.

OK. I already checked their T&C pages and couldn't find anything Florida specific except a promo that ran from July 1 to August 31. I will unburden you from your restrictions by stopping trying to help. Good luck.Yes go to their web page and look up their exceptions located in the rules. Yes, I am locked out. I call and cancel my membership when those months approach, Here is their phone # 702-430-9706. I play there for something to do when I can't afford to go to the regular poker rooms. And my life has no restrictions except for trying not to talk to people like you.
I've never played Club WPT. That isn't really an online poker site either is it? it's a club where people pay a monthly fee to play "free poker" basically right? Party poker is just like pokerstars, 888, and the other sites banned for all US players except for the 4 states that have changed their laws. If you want to play in Florida there are plenty of US friendly sites that allow you to play all year. ACR, Bovada, Bet online, Global poker, Black chip, just to name a few.

Do you have any idea why they are not allowed to play 4 months of the year, any why Florida specifically? That seems like such an odd restriction, like some state wide religious thing.
You're a good man Tim, a great humanitarian, it's never good to be burdened. :rofl:OK. I already checked their T&C pages and couldn't find anything Florida specific except a promo that ran from July 1 to August 31. I will unburden you from your restrictions by stopping trying to help. Good luck.
Oh wow! thanks for replying to me with the information, I had no idea... that seems so strange to me. I've honestly never even heard of ClubWPT before I will have to check them out to see if they have a good reputation and what they have to offer. Ahhh, this is all making sense to me now. It's because ClubWPT is technically a sweepstakes and not strictly a real money poker room. Florida does have some wonky sweepstakes rules that went into effect a few years ago, supposedly to protect consumers from scams. For example, there's a rule that says that games of chance may be operated by commercial entities only on a limited and occasional basis (e.g. a couple months out of the year) as a marketing tool incidental to the sale of a product or service. Also, ClubWPT would have to register with the FL Department of Agriculture before each promotional period, pay a fee, supply a list of winners to the state, etc.
How do I know this? My wife is a part-time sweepstaker, and she's taught me a few of the rules.
Some additional information from their website (https://www.clubwpt.com/prize-eligibility/) (emphasis added):
ClubWPT offers $100,000 in cash and prizes every month to eligible members. No purchase necessary to win. ClubWPT operates within the sweepstakes rules where they are legal and excludes people from joining who live in those states or territories where they are not. See Terms & Conditions for details and eligibility.
According to them, it has to do with the sweepstake laws in Florida. That makes no sense though because I can play at most any site. The site is good and they offer money prizes and many special events for decent money. It's a good place to play when your budget isn't allowing you to play at the costlier sites. The website is www.clubwpt.com. The membership fee is $24.99 a month.
Amendment 3 will make it very difficult -- if not impossible -- to expand gaming opportunities in Florida. If Amendment 3 passes it means there will be no new poker rooms, no chance to add new games at existing cardrooms, and, it forecloses on the opportunity for Florida to legalize internet poker and sports betting. This is information your Florida connections need to know. Please take a minute to share this special web page: https://www.pokeralliance.com/vote-no-on-3/
