PokerNews is pleased to confirm the upcoming release of "The Lederer Files," a series of videos compiled from an exclusive, seven-hour interview with Howard Lederer on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. In the interview, Lederer breaks his silence on the events leading up to and surrounding Full Tilt Poker and Black Friday.

The video will be released in six or possibly even seven 30-minute video segments. It will all begin with part one and part two on Tuesday, Sept. 18, and the remainder of the segments will be released throughout this week.

Should be interesting to see how he tries to swing things to make him seem innocent, but PokerNews said they won't just give him a bye.

You beat me to the punch, AH. :) I was just about to post this breaking news! Here are a few excerpts from the article:

"During my initial conversation with Lederer, I made it clear that if he was looking for an outlet to make this easy on him in return for the opportunity to run a story, then we were not interested. I also made it clear that my team and I would need adequate time to prepare in full, and that he would need to prepare for quite a long sit-down to cover everything we were hoping to cover. Lederer agreed, and ultimately we decided on a video interview so there would be nothing lost in translation. The poker community deserved not only to read what Lederer had to say, but they deserved to see and hear the answers directly."

"The PokerNews team and I reviewed the footage, and spent the past week editing and preparing for the release of what will ultimately be known as "The Lederer Files."

"The video will be released in six or possibly even seven 30-minute video segments. It will all begin with part one and part two on Tuesday, Sept. 18, and the remainder of the segments will be released throughout this week."

They are edited and that implies someone else's POV. Get looking for your 'grain of salt'. If the interviewer had, or any of his friends had/have existing FT accounts, they will come with questions and conclusions and EDITING decisions that will skew the truth. It can not be helped, or prevented. It could be softened by HL giving his after the fact UNEDITED reply to these Lederer Files.

Color me skeptical....

Editing also just implies "cleaned up" for public consumption. Original footage is incredibly tedious and a great way to lose your audience.

I think it will become very apparent if editing was biased or not.

But Howard's problem is going to be and always will be - what can he say now that he couldn't have said before?

I'm not a regular follower, but you can be sure I'll be checking out Negreanu's blog while this is going on. Oh yeah...

I'll second this opinion. Yeah, it's 4 letters but 'edit' is not a dirty word.
(And hello CC, been absent far too long! Till the dam breaks, backgammon  is main online thinking person's game.)

looking forward to it but 7 hour interview cut down to 3 ? 4 hours edited out . does that sound normal ? I guess Chris should do one soon after;)

There are probably people who can give a more definitive answer (and obviously I haven't seen any of the footage to judge how much of this stuff would actually be a factor) but yeah, it sounds pretty normal to me.

There will invariably be all sorts of crap on the raw tape, like takes where the sound wasn't working right or where or the other of them tripped over their words and had to start over or where the answers were, frankly, just too boring to include.

As people have suggested above, the fact that editing can be used to skew the message doesn't necessarily mean that it has been. We'll have to watch and see, I guess...

Actually. no. Normal would be cutting it down to an hour or less. I am not being a smart ass (at least not this time) - it's what I do for a living. But yeah, lot's of reasons for editing that are not nefarious in nature. Bad audio, bad video, someone farted, belched, repeated the same story 3 hours later, taking breaks, host stammering (have to make the host look good always), brain farts, someone bumps into the camera and they have to start over at some point, etc. These things get cut out in the name of production value and viewer watchability.

If Lederer gets shorted on this you can be sure he'll say something. If Lederer gets the benefit of this you can be sure Negreanu will something - well Daniel is going to say something either way.

And it is very difficult to edit an interview to make it say something it doesn't without b-roll cutaways and the like. About the only way you can do this is taking out isolated sentences like they do for movie and book reviews. Like I said before, it will be pretty apparent if there were any shenanigans, but I would be willing to bet (and I am not a gambling man) that whoever "edited" this piece is NOT a trained editor and is not capable of pulling it off anyway.

WARNING - Personal rant that has nothing to do with poker:
There are so many "trained" video editors running around today because they went to a two day seminar on how the software works. But learning (more like getting exposed to) how the software works means jack. These quickie classes do not teach you how to edit. It would be like going to a two day seminar on how a CAD program works - that doesn't make you an architect; or a two day seminar on Quickbooks - doesn't make you an accountant.
I am constantly in the position of hiring and contracting editors for TV and radio. Even the most trained, degreed people have had to spend several weeks up to months under me to learn how to actually edit.
