Many of you may already know but for those that don't the Peoples Rep. of Kalifornia is getting closer to actually coming up with a plan to allow and regulate online poker within its borders. There was talk of teaming up with the state of Nevada but im sure my states greed chased the silver state away.

My issue here is the states track record to ruin everything they touch. Whether its over regulation, fees or taxation, it seems they just cant help themselves. Crippling the horse racing industry to stomping on small card houses while boosting and collecting political donations from the indian casinos.

I can just see an average Joe $5 holdem tourney which would usually carry a $0.50 fee become a $1.00 or more. This twenty percent plus fee will of coarse chase away those that use their grey matter upstairs. There would have to be mucho fish to offset the extra dime.

Would ring games resemble the take of a brick and motar fee but without the overhead. Living here all my life this would not surprise me since the once golden state bear looks more like rotting roadkill.

Do you have any sources to back up the claim that tournament fees will be hiked? I'm not saying it's unfounded -- this is actually my biggest fear -- but I'm not sure I have seen any details to indicate this. I know one of the bills in question that came out last year looked a bit scary and uncompetitive.

IIRC, the CA intrastate gaming bills from 2011 were pretty bad for players. It's been a while, so I can't remember the details off the top of my head.

According to Russ Fox, who is a tax practitioner big in the community, SB1463 isn't that bad (yet) -- here are the details:

if you look at it from the 'state' point of view, its primary goal ( as hard as it is to believe ) is to protect its citizens. Online gaming to most states are viewed as unapproved or unsecured even though the site says tells you its "safe" and "secure". i've seen alot of threads on people complaining about how a certain server or site screwed them of $$$ and now the state is PROBABLY like, "Well, wtf, we told you not to do it, stop coming to us for help ****er". but..all said and done, regulating is ****ing pointless in my opinion, keep it dirty- after all it is just a 'game'..

To be fair, the state "goverment" of Califrornia could eff up a one car parade, of course the same can be said of the other 49 or 56,dependin on who's counting, state governments.

I look on as an interested outsider in the UK, seeing as we have a habit of doing everything the US does about 4 or 5 years later I am hoping that the US sorts this debacle out before we follow suit and ban online gaming.
Whatever happened to freedom of choice?

One site per state would completely ruin the little traffic the US players actually have..

give me facts, you have to be kidding right, if you live in this state thats all the facts you need. some paint a rosey picture but we(kalifornians) are laughing stocks of the country.

do yourself a favor, get a real education and move to nevada, you'll find me there soon on the welfare tables.

the best view of kalifornia(people of), is from your rearview mirror.
