I'm really shocked that a player as skilled as Negreanu would have net negatives over a calendar year. It goes to show how much variance there is in poker and lots of things to consider if you want to be a winning poker player.

TBH I am amazed more top players don't crash and burn more often.

Even the best have their bad days. Ask Illsidur about that.

It's his second year in a row with losses...

I think people generally overestimate the chance of making money in poker...
They just see the headlines that say people won 1, 2 or 5 million in a tournament
and think that is PROFIT...

But if You read that statement You start to realize that even these top players are not really poker pros... "I have separate deals with companies like PokerStars and Poker Central, but this income is unrelated to my buy ins."

In other words: His real profession is advertising...

I think this was also what Vanessa Selbst was referring to when she said she could not continue to tell amateurs that the games are beatable for them... How can an average person make a solid profit when even the best are not capable of doing so...

You must also keep in mind that this statistics only shows the buy-ins... Add traveling, hotel and other expenses and he ended the year with a solid loss...

I was referring to when he lost $4 million, but yes he is a very good player.

He ought to be lobbying for live rakes to be increased to promote the poker ecology, nope don't expect him to do something that will actually hit his bottom line.#

Negreanu

In the case of Negreanu, he is an exceptional player, however, as he plays very expensive live, if he did not pull anything, it's really hard to stay green.

He had net negatives in tourneys even the best only cash serious cash a small percentage of time. His cash play I would assume more than made up for it.

I always like Daniel for his honesty. I often wondered how much these guys spend on games a year vs cashes . Even seems in low buy-in tourneys you have to have some very deep cashes to stay ahead. With the huge rake at small buyins live makes it really hard where I play they take like 30% in fees and dealer bonuses. Hard to be profitable with that

So almost anyone can rake up life time wins. It should be life time profits or championship bracelets.

Amazing. But, I think Daniel brings up something that everyone needs to consider if they're starting their own business. And, being a pro poker is simply another type of business. You need to look at every possible revenue stream and take seriously it's potential. It appears to me that without his endorsement deals, he'd be kinda poor despite his past winnings if you take life expenses into play. And expenses for him include your normal stuff like home, food, insurance, gas, light bill, etc. etc. Then, add to his: flights, car service, food on the road. Adds up quick.

Hey, if being a pro poker player were easy....everyone would do it.
