Internet Gambling Hearing Highlights Consumer Protections and New Revenue

Today we heard powerful testimony from Reps. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) during a hearing on Internet gambling before the House Ways and Means Committee. Frank and McDermott both made the case for regulating Internet gambling by reiterating the need for increased consumer safeguards and highlighting the additional $42 billion in federal revenue and 32,000 jobs which would be gained in a regulated environment.

Further, the legislation reinforces the rights of each State and Tribal Government to determine whether to allow online gambling activity for people accessing the Internet within their borders and to apply other restrictions on the activity as necessary.

Try living in Washington State....it's still a Class C felony if you are caught playing 1/2 limit online (any game). That's equal to being prosecuted as a child molester.

Not holding my breath with government doing anything beyond getting their individual pockets lined (Native American reservations with casinos donated millions to the pockets when this horrible legislation was passed here in WA--without a vote), but I am still hopeful.

when will the madness end between not be able to play on all sites and depositing and withdrawal problems and with the gov sitting on their azzes legalize it and start reaping the benifits

I agree. I find this all is making me very nervous. Even IF the Feds pass regulation, you're still going to have all the red states opt out in an effort to protect us from going to hell...while at the same time continuing to peddle their own state lotteries. Guess I should be examining communities in neighboring states...

This is on top of the uncertainty as to what June 1st will really cause. I know the PPA doesn't feel anything will change, but you never know. Not going to be much to have if the deposits freeze up.
