Will be interesting to see what the tribes want (besides the whole pie);).

I also heard somewhere that some tribes are trying to build casinos off of tribal lands.

http://www.pokernews.com/news/2012/...ing-own-federal-internet-poker-bill-13105.htm

With talk that Senate leaders have come together on an online gambling bill to push in the lame-duck session between the November elections and the end of the year, Indian tribes may be preparing their own federal bill addressing Internet poker. The tribes will discuss the issue Thursday in the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.

Indian Affairs Hearing - Cliffs

Not surprising that they want the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) to be the federal regulating body of any federal gaming.

Video http://www.senate.gov/fplayers/jw57/commMP4Player.cfm?fn=indian072612&st=300

Cliffs:

The Honorable Bruce ''Two Dogs'' Bozsum, Chairman of the Mohegan tribe addresses internet gaming at 64:26. He speaks in favor of a Federal solution and against a state by state solution.

Mr. Glen Gobin, Secretary, Tulalip Tribes of Washington. He previously spoke against internet gaming now that the Wire Act is moot. Now he is in favor. Since Washington State specifically makes online gaming illegal, they wouldn't be able to participate without a change to that law.

Mr. Jamie Hummingbird, Chairperson, National Tribal Gaming Commissioners/Regulators basically said that tribes are the best ones to regulate internet gaming.

Ms. Elizabeth Homer, Homer Law says no Federal Agency is equipped to handle internet regulation except for the NIGC.

Jon Porter, Homer Law, former Nevada congressman, is in favor of a poker only bill and expresses concern about the states' lottery scratch tickets and encourages cooperation between tribes and non-tribe re internet gambling and says that for the government to do nothing about online gaming would be a bad idea. His reason for poker only, is because it is peer to peer and a game of skill.

Mr. Eugene Johnson, Spectrum Gaming Group, pro online gaming, addresses under-age gaming. In answer to a question by the chairman, discusses the need for multi-state consortiums because small states and small tribes just don't have a big enough population to compete with casinos and offshore operators.

Senator Akaka is 89.

From just reading the cliff notes, I'm totally on Jon Potter's side. Poker should be seperated from gambling in general. Because it is more of a skill game. Yes, how the cards come out is random, but how you play the cards is the skill, and more often than not, the better player will get the upper hand (as I don't really have to explain that here).

I'm totally in favor of games of skill being legalized everywhere even if there is an entry fee. I'm also thinking about video game tournaments here lol

i stopped going to indian casinos along time ago. Unlike Nevada casinos, indian casinos arent required to tell you house takes and percentages so they dont. Though this doesnt really pertain to poker unless youre playing video poker it really has to do with slots.

Its principle for me, i'll drive the extra 350 miles, stay in a free room, enjoy a smoke and sip my free drink.
