There was an excellent episode of Stossel last night on the Fox Business Network, it was all about gambling... If you did not catch it this will be on again tonight at 1am/ET and Sunday at 9pm/ET... I would really appreciate for everybody to watch this, it will help you feel stronger for pro-choice on gambling... It will help you argue against people who are anti-gambling it was a great watch :) Post your thoughts about this tonight, thanks and I guarantee that you won't regret it!

The anti-gambling, anti-lottery people really struggle to make compelling arguments.

Thanks for the info and sharing of the video. IMO, online poker should be legal and governed by the states for income.

Powerball proves that the states are capable of working together with a justifiable percentage sharing of revenues. That is the basis of having a large legal players pool with the rake being taxed accordingly and divided percentage wise to each state that participates, regardless of skin.

The days of prehistoric antiquated likes of self-serving Tyrannosaurus Adelson and his mindless lemmings are numbered, it is time for change, and it's more than just poker.

ok --- off to Carbon :)

I seldom agree with anything Right Wing, but the OLP thing is, and should be non-partisan.

While it was a nice intro into the issues, I think the piece did not go deep enough.

Also, when comparing OLP to state lotteries, even when they are multi-state lotto's, keep in mind that the states get close to 1/2 the monies involved with the other (very approximately) 1/2 going to the prize pools. OLP can not survive against those kinds of % breakdowns.

There would seem to be a magical margin in the 5-12% range where the state mandated fees will not kill OLP. And, unfortunately, it also seems the greedy bastards can't understand the notion of a 'little bit of something is better than a big piece of nothin'.

As a poker player I still believe we need to separate OLP out from all the other casino games (craps, BJ, roulette, slots etc) and perhaps align the game with Horse Racing, where those margins are not prohibitive. We (IMHO) should also be resisting getting lumped in with Lotto's.

Perhaps we should be thinking about 'renting' a seat (or seats) at online poker tables. Any state funds would then be derived from the rental fees. For the state it would need to provide player protections.

Personally, and probably because I live close enough to many casino's, I would think a live registration (for age verification) would solve the age thing. It could also be the sole way to deposit and withdraw, which might go far to curb problem gambling addictions.

This is something I agree with 100%. It's not popular among the players, who want instant gratification, but it does address age and identity verification in no uncertain terms.

Also, in the network-based system I advocate for, even the smallest local card rooms would be able to offer online games, with shared player pools with other rooms in the state assuring player liquidity. This puts in-person registration and transaction much closer to the players. It's actually a huge plus, imo

We need more things like this to come out. Poker needs to be back in full not just in Nj and Nevada.

Many people associate the word gambler with drunk failed in life man who cant stop doing what he do. It`s a nightmare for some people but these people who actually look like this are very few and they make the reputation of every gambler how they should look like.
