While the Russian poker players are beginning to prepare for the new year holidays, Russian lawmakers have prepared a gift for them. Last week the Federation Council approved a law banning on funds transfers, including electronic money, in the bookmaker, lotteries and other gambling, if they are unlawfully on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The new law comes into force on 1 January 2018.
Poker in Russia is recognized as gambling. Consequently, the legislative changes will affect Russian poker players.
I have a feeling that online poker will soon be closed in Russia. I would not like this.:(

Very likely, this tendency will spread over to other CIS countries. Regrettably, government agencies seem to consider poker as heavy form of gambling, even though it is less risky than sports betting, having so many online bookmakers operating inside Russia at the same time. PS and other top rooms will lose huge bulk of clients, if it will come into effect.
Looks like, it is going to be a trend from now on for big countries. Perhaps, they want to keep money in the country and new local rooms will evolve in those big countries consequently.
Anyway, it will be sad if global online poker will slowly become only local [emoji17]

what with using vpn service? i know many russian players use it.

The law says that a state supervision has the right to request all the information from your ISP to the suspect of a poker player and provider is obliged to inform all the information about the client. Is the use of VPN, visit banned websites, etc. For refusing to give the information the provider is responsible and may be subject to a heavy fine.
This also applies to various banks in which the player received an illegal transfer of funds.
Doesn't sound very nice.

And another interesting news.
The Russian tax authorities require from players who received income from the gambling establishments of the Republic of Belarus, to provide a tax return for the year 2016, or or they have the right deny the fact of receiving income.
The Ministry of taxes and levies (MNS) of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal tax service (FTS) of Russia to cooperate.
The financial authorities of the two allied countries have access to information on the financial operations of taxpayers and clients of organizations that provide gaming services.
According to Article 198 of the criminal code failure to submit tax returns or other documents that are required, as well as providing false information shall be punished:
1 - a fine from one hundred to three hundred thousand rubles or other income of the convicted person in the period from one year to two years;
2 - compulsory works for a term up to three years;
3 - deprivation of liberty for up to three years.
Many players have already received a letter from the tax authorities of the Russian Federation.
A great gift for the New Year.

You know all governments are alike. If they see an opportunity to take in money through taxes they will do it. They tax gas, insurance, hotels, flights, so now gambling through poker.

Because others have to decide what you want to do, that is the decision of each person, what they want to do with the Russians is unfair, I put myself in their place, and I would be very unhappy.
It is going against freedom of thought and expression. Evident that there is something bad behind all this on the part of the Russian authorities in an authoritarian way.

The issue is linked to the flight of capital, surely set an alarm in the comparative table of their deposits vs their profits. When seeing a considerable amount of losses for the game online, they have taken the necessary corrections. Everything is political.
