But it seems to make sense, doesn't it?

I am not sure if this is a good thing or not.

I used HM first and I didn't like it but when I tried PT4 on a trial I absolutley loved it. I hope the merger doesn't rely too much on HM as I will not purchasing if it runs like HM did on my computer it was way too buggy.

I have and use both and prefer HM2, but PT4 has its charm too. Especially considering PT4 works with League games, while HM2 does not because they dropped support for play money games awhile ago. A rather arbitrary decision that annoyed me quite a bit, since there's almost no difference in HH format.

Regarding the merger FAQ:

"We have no current plans to increase prices."
-We'll see how that changes in a couple months.

"Plans for an eventual release of PT5 and HM3 have not changed because of the merger. However, those products are currently only in the very early stage of planning. An actual release date for either has not been estimated."
-They already say one reason for the merger is overlapping technology and infrastructure; they wouldn't have done it unless they planned on merging the software. Even if they keep to separate releases for PT5 and HM3, the software differences will be greatly reduced.

Having said that, I'm not against this. If/when online poker legalizes nationally, I think we'll see plenty of competition to develop better/different hand history analysis software. What I really hope for (although I don't expect much) is development of Stud game software. Poker Tracker had an early program for analyzing stud games, but it was never that strong.

That is what annoyed me also, I wanted to get used to using a HUD so I was planning on playing PM games only and I couldn't get it to run on other sites either, and it never worked on any of the freerolls I was playing. There was an issue with FTP and when I had a few days left on the trial they issued the update to fix the bug. It didn't run properly on Carbon either, the stats were by the wrong people and I didn't find how to correct that, I ended up not bothering with it, if it is too brain taxing, it ends up in the muck :D PT4 worked perfectly after a little tweaking, I found it easier to work with and it hardly ever made my laptop laggy. I will be getting a new laptop in october that is when I will be purchasing PT4 :)

Your assumption is incorrect. The merger was good for the investors of both companies, thats why we choose to make this business deal. It is a business merger - it is not a merger of the two softwares. We will be unifying some back-end technologies that will usually not be obvious to the end user to reduce development redundancy and expedite the development process so we can move faster, but the two softwares are expected to remain as separate and autonomous units and remain in friendly competition with one another - just as we have been friendly competitors for a long time.

So even though they merge, they're basically still separate softwares

This isn't really surprising, considering the number of mergers that have gone on elsewhere in the industry.

I just hope that they continue to push each other to develop new features. Oftentimes mergers like these stifle creativity since there isn't a real third party competitor to push innovation.

Think about how stagnant the Madden franchise has become since EA bought the license and no longer had to compete with 2K and other developers who were making better games at the time.

I hope that won't happen, I love PT4 and used PT3 before that and have always been a big fan of their work. Still it is a realistic fear.

The are just merging the two companies actual staff and technological resources, not the actual software. The two different software will remain separate and they will be using cloud technology in near future.

yes sire, thats what i was thinking mergers usually mean someone is getting the short end of the stick. the madden game is a joke now. play your madden game from 10 years ago and play the current ones it very similar. you see this stuff in every industry when antivirus softwares merge its the same thing. i hope this doesnt happen here if i start using these software's.

No worthy competition - can be sold more expensive and to do worse. Hopefully this will not....

Not sure what "new" software you're referring to. HM2 and PT4 are both updated frequently, and both have new versions in the pipeline as far as I know. Neither one is going anywhere from what they've announced.

I use PT4 and I only see good coming from the two merging, I too have heard that the software will be separate but under one company. Would be see the 2 to merge as on software. Would be exciting what and if they do this.
