I welcome it. In line with most other poker rooms. I presume Stars will be following suit

I'm actually a bit worried about what it'll mean for Australian customers: online sports betting is 100% legal here (and incredibly lucrative for operators) but poker isn't.

While Full Tilt and Stars have been poker-only they've always served Australians because they're based overseas and even though it's technically illegal for them to provide the service to us, they haven't based servers or staff here and nobody's pursued it AFAIK.

If Full Tilt wants to start offering sports betting too though, I'm wondering if they'll have to drop poker. Other companies that offer both (betfair is one of the biggest examples) don't allow Australians to play poker because they'd rather give us sports betting instead.

Also, I'm wondering how far away the name change is going to be: obviously they're not just a poker site any more. Do they drop the "poker" and just become "Full Tilt" or do they rebrand entirely?

good call on the name change hmmmmmm

I obviously welcome it, I think having a casino and sports book option would maybe bring more fish to the poker tables.

i agree.
i think that adding the sport betting will defintley make them either
drop poker or reject australian players.
too bad though.
all of this rules are annoying, i dont understand why we cant do what we want with our money

Long story short, in Australia it's mostly because the brick and mortar casinos have exclusivity deals with the government: in most major centres there's only one casino, and that monopoly is guaranteed by the government for some years into the future.

If the government allowed online poker and casino games they'd probably be violating that agreement. The brick and mortar casinos pay squillions in taxes, while offshore gaming sites don't so... n'yeah, guess who wins that battle?

As long as the sites have stayed offshore, to the best of my knowledge the government hasn't bothered much with actually enforcing the law. Something like this might force their hand though.

I think that the company is just adjusting to the environment of its competitors and establishing a new foundation with the members. I don't see anything wrong with that and especially when trying to create a new image because in all reality they should.

For poker players this is a huge incentive and most should want this to happen because you get more players on the tables that are sports betters. More fish unless they're good at poker, but I've heard my friends talk about how they get online on the weekends to intercept their play and make some money fairly easily.

I hope not, that would be terrible.

They will not offer sportsbetting service to all countries. Just like their casino services are limited to 20 odd countries.
