As I am not in the States I cannot watch this play out closely, but it is going to be interesting to follow. No doubt vested interest are vigorously lobbying in the background already.

Sheldon Adleson has spent millions fighting against on-line poker's re-expansion and his coalition's clout and lobbying power appeared to be a driver in the DOJ January 2019 decision - which will now be under review (if I am correct) because a judge contested the DOJ interpretation of the law.

I'd expect large sums to be heading to lobbyists and as political contributions to ensure that January decision is upheld on appeal.

i truly hope for all the americans that you be allowed play online poker freely
seems very strange a country respect freedom, usually wish government "the hell away from & no bother me" - allow this infringement of rights
government wish be your nanny, no allow wagers online
yet permit you to smoke tobacco?
yes DS3 so much of usa things revolves around politics mainly - it is sad that

Agreed KristaK.

The irony of course is Adleson is in the gaming industry so his entire thrust is keeping gambling restricted to casinos where he can profit, while doing anything he can to restrict on-line gaming which would threaten (he believes) his profits.

The arguments are all dressed up in morals and protecting vulnerable people from themselves, but it is specifically about protecting his bottom line.

Been waiting forever for it to finally be regulated in the states. Just doesn't seem fair to us.

All we can do is hope in the US. I used to believe it was just going to take time before we had online poker in the US. I could say more but I dont want to be negative.

Monopolies hate hate hate competition. And Joe Schmo can't compete with the billionaire class in buying the brown nosers in government.

this is an outrage

after my fing job was takin on black friday (for what i saw as legit reasons they werent following the american banking laws). Now that we are just getting it back because of bit coin they are trying again to take it away again... WOW.... I honestly think that even with no taxes being payed i believe that Americans ( and i could be wrong here) are better at poker than the majority of the world and it is bring in money to a country that really has little in the way of resources. i think that the government is doing itself a disservice and if the lobbying behind it is from casinos i also think they are doing themselves a disservice, because i believe that it helps teach smaller level people the game and give them the confidence to walk into a brick and mortar. anyway this is ridiculous.

For what it's worth, I just checked back on some aspects of this entire multi-year episode regarding Sheldon Adelson's involvement. It is said he has kept a staff of up to 24 on the go for years, working week in and out to ensure on-line gambling does not get any further traction.

I guess he figures this is worth the fight. Something I have often wondered, with all the money he has spent to try to stop anyone else profiting from what he has over the years, with a different platform, he could have created his own online casino, etc and made even more money, if it is done right. Obviously, he makes more money than he will ever spend in 100 lifetimes and I'm pretty sure he continues to be very involved with any decision making - I guess it's his mission to stop anyone else from profiting.

I don't know...just spit balling, again.. :D

It’s more than clear in Florida. I can drive to a casino in my neighborhood, and lose my life savings at anytime, any day.
But I am not allowed to play online poker at say WPT four months of the year.
We’re talking about $25.00.
That’s the government taking care of casinos, not people

Unfortunately, people are more than willing to give up their rights. Most even believe we are a democracy, sigh.

Exactly Shells, he could have set up his own platform and benefitted from bricks and mortar as well as on-line activities. However, he has his way of doing/looking at things then takes an aggressive even vindictive approach to those who do not see eye to eye. Its in his combative DNA, he is old school.

He had a simplistic view on on-line poker from inception -it was a threat and needed to be eliminated so he has used all his resources to do just that.

Here's my opinion for what it's worth. I believe if an individual state would legalize marijuana and legalize online gambling then control it all through the state. Grow the marijuana on State Farms and sell it and state stores. Run the gambling sites on state servers ran by the state. Any state that would do that could pave their streets in gold with the profits they would make. Like I said just my opinion

I hear that!

Now, doesn't that make sense?! But of course, you know there are lobbyists who will do whatever they can to totally dismay or dissuade the state governments from even putting this idea on an agenda. If the state governments can look above all the lobbying, I bet there could be some very happy people in many sectors and all the social and/or infrastructure programmes would keep people healthier, etc. A lot of forms of government have lost their way, it seems.

We know Sheldon Adelson will continue to buy his way to get his way, especially when it comes to casinos and online gambling/gaming, so don't be surprised if the Wire Act is reversed.

(spit ballin' again...kinda ;) )
