Daniel Negreanu: "Bank of America Closing All My Accounts"

Daniel Negreanu, who has earned over $32 million from live tournaments during his career, announced recently on Twitter that he is having some major problems with Bank of America.

According to Negreanu, Bank of America (one of the biggest banks in the United States) will be closing all of his accounts, since he has deposited too much poker-related money in them.

It seems Negreanu is not the only poker pro who has had problems with the Bank of America, as Doug Polk revealed, that he had a substantial amount frozen 1,5 years ago for 2 months:

Damn, and before that he also posted Mastercards was blocking his account.
Why would they not want his poker earned money on their bank????

Bank of America sub par bank at the most. Ive had trouble with them as a vendor I had to tell my customers that I would not and could not except there checks. They charged me for every one of there checks i cashed for my business which devalued the USD to the point it just wasnt worth it. It made a lot of people upset and all the other vendors in my business follow suit. I was thankful my customers understood about the problem after I explained what was going on. Because if i kept using Bank of America I would have to charge more for my product. This was 15 years back. Bank of
America can go kick rocks!

thought it would have been the opposite if an unknown starts depositing millions of dollars in an account surely that will raise more suspicions i.e. trafficking, drugdealing, terrorism etc

I banked with BOA, while I was still with Pokerstars.. I was allowed my cashout of Black Friday. I hope Dan gets his money. I always wondered how he still played. Is it because he is Canadian Citizenship?

Wow, funny parody of a bank letter, which had me going about halfway thru. If you're not attracting the feds, you probably won't get your accounts flagged.

Wow cannot believe that letter... they kept "30% of your funds for themselves and promise to use them to market other customers"...that is stealing isn't it? can you imagine any of us doing that we would serve jail time.....crazy world we live in!

Many banks here in Nevada have policies against depositing winnings from gaming. I bank at B of A and have been asked on 2 occasions if the deposits I were making were from Casino winnings.

I always tell them the same thing, the money is from my gold prospecting and show them my GPAA ID. Gold Prospecting Association of America.

His bank is probably looking at his infrequent, but very large, deposits as a potential sign of illegal activity. Of course, you'd think they could reach out to him and find out what is the real deal before doing something stupid like telling a person with a lot money and a huge fan base that they don't want his business.

Sounds like some banks are overly careful and allergic when it comes to poker. Maybe the one who decided got sucked out by runner-runner quads or so?

In the letter above, maybe I'm misreading It, or I'm misinterpreting It. Does It read at the bottom we are keeping 30$ of all 2015 deposits? I'm speechless, I'd kill the banker, If they did that to me.

Working for a major large bank I can add something to the conversation. They wouldn't have close his accounts for ne reason. That's taking a loss in revenue. The only way a Bank will close the accounts is if they feel that they are violating federal law. It must have something to do with large deposits from over seas, I guarantee it. Just my 2 cent, Buzz

Not to get of topic here but why isn't a bank closing Bill Gates's accounts? I mean Negreanu doesn't have nearly his funds, so why Is his being close? Also why did they take 30% of his deposits again? I wonder how he felt having 30% on all his 2015 deposits robbed and he just couldn't do nothing about It?

Abdi, the letter is a joke letter, it may make more sense if you re read it as a joke.

Well, i believe it has something to do with 'Laundry of funds'!
Government believe illegal funds are flowing through sites, to wash from government tracing (following of monetry travel).
Thus people can unwittingly help wash terrorist funds with game playing, and then withdrawing funds few days later...
I can see both sides of argument.

Banks are under strict goverment controls now, especially after they were all bailed out of the S..t, few years ago, and thus have to open 'ALL' accounts to allow goverment scrutiny.
