A real detective story happened once in poker

It's no secret that there are a lot of very interesting and sometimes too intricate stories connected with poker. One of them occurred in 1858 in a small American town. There were many places where you can play poker, and in one of them at the table was Robert Fallon. He did not know how to play honestly, so he was soon noticed in cheating. In those days, life was easier than now, because Vollon's opponent in the game just shot him, accusing him of unfair competition.

As a result, a seat was vacated at the gaming table, but no one wanted to occupy it. All those present were too superstitious, and they feared that they would suffer the fate of the murdered one. In order not to drag out time and continue the game, it was decided to invite the first counter man to the table.

And it was done, at the gaming table was a random passer-by. He was given $ 600 earned by Follon, and briefly told the basic rules of the game. Having mastered poker, the young man managed to get a good amount. At this point in the game room came the police, and arrested the murderer Robert Fallon. The payoff of the attacker was decided to be given to the relatives of Volonne. After a short search it became clear that the casual player is the son of Folonne, whom he threw together with his mother several years ago. Thus, the casual passer-by became the owner of the inheritance of his unlucky daddy.

Crime on the WPT was revealed a year later

Poker Festival Fallsview Poker Classic, which takes place in the Canadian city of Ontario, gained fame due to one high-profile event. Tour of the game was held in a major casino Fallsview, the match was organized under the auspices of the World Poker Tour. To participate in the final table, players paid $ 1,100 of the entry fee. However, the player who claimed to win the tournament did not manage to finish his leader's game. Right during the competition, the player was arrested, and forced to go to the police station.

A few hours later it became known that the detained player was Harnam Sin Mataru. He was charged with the theft of 5 thousand dollars, which occurred during last year's tournament. It happened this unpleasant event in Montreal, where the next stage of the World Poker Tour was taking place.

The most interesting detail of this story is that the Harnama stack of Sina Mataru remained in the game even after its owner was in the hands of the police. He even managed to take the third place, and get a prize of about 90 thousand dollars. This was due to the generally accepted rule - the stack takes part in the game even if its owner can not continue the competition for certain reasons.

Crime on EPT Berlin was remembered by many

Memorable for all fans of poker and fans of detective stories was the Berlin stage of the European poker tour in 2010. This event was a victim of robbery, and the criminals managed to get $ 2 million.

Several armed men burst directly into the hall where the high roller tournament was held. Players and spectators quickly left the room. On the way, they filled up several partitions and caused minor damage to property. In a panic it was impossible even to consider what the robbers were armed with and how they looked. The administration of the tournament evacuated everyone who was in the hall. In an atmosphere of vanity, the criminals managed to take money out of the hall practically without any difficulties.

For some time the game was suspended, and then all the tournaments were scheduled. Three days later the police were able to detain the suspects in the crime. A huge help in such a quick investigation was provided by shooting from a surveillance camera. After a detailed study, police officers were able to compose a fotoport of the attackers, and soon to find their whereabouts. The criminals received a prison term, but the money that was stolen, disappeared. Despite the huge efforts of the police, they did not find the bills.

The killing of the tournament coordinator surprised everyone

At the beginning of the 20th century, poker only became popular, there were few professional players. Despite this, the tournaments were quite interesting, and many wanted to participate in them. Especially popular was the poker tournament, which took place in one of the casinos in New York in 1919. Among its organizers, Arnold Rothstein was not the last. He had the glory of a criminal and a dangerous bandit, but he did not interfere with playing poker.

The loudest crime of Arnold Rothstein became collusion with the players of the team "Chicago White Sox". He paid a lot of money to ensure that the members of the baseball team intentionally played badly and could not win the World Series competitions. This scandal has become widely known in the sports world.

Rothstein had many enemies and ill-wishers, who suffered from his machinations. As a result, Arnold was killed right during the game in poker. Most likely, the swindler categorically refused to pay the card debt, at the price of this became his own life.

Robbery of the poker champion

A friend of the four-time winner of the gold bracelet of the world series of poker Daniel Alai lost about 400 thousand dollars, which were stolen from his own house. But the most interesting thing in this story is that the burglars did not touch the bills. They took out a huge number of poker cash-cakes, whose value in money terms is 400 thousand dollars.

Fans of poker are incredibly surprised by such strange news. It's hard to find a poker player who will take chips out of the casino instead of cash. This is a non-convertible currency outside the gambling house, and what to do with chips in ordinary life is completely incomprehensible. In addition, it is unreasonable to store chips at home, as did Alai's friend. It is also interesting why in a house where such expensive valuables are stored, there is no reliable security system.

Experienced players see in this action only one goal - to hide from taxes. The fact is that according to the American laws, the prize in the amount of 357 thousand dollars, is necessarily taxed by 35% tax. Save all the money in its entirety so far, only if you do not cash them into the currency. But, as this story shows, this method is not always effective either. Now cash caches are searched by police officers, but the probability of finding them is extremely low.

Hackers deceive players in online poker

The virus program allows scammers to "spy" the opponent's cards. This is written by the portal Habrahabr.

The Win32 / Spy.Odlanor Trojan goes to the victim's computer after installing additional poker software such as Poker Calculator Pro, Smart Buddy, Poker Office, disguised as one of them. The virus is targeted at players of the PokerStars and Full Tilt poker sites.

After activating the malicious program, hackers will be able to take screenshots of the infected computer after activating PokerStars and full tilt poker clients. This makes it possible to see the player's cards and his ID, which is necessary to find it through a search on the site.

In addition, the latest version of Win32 / Spy.Odlanor includes a program that allows you to steal passwords.

According to information from the source, the virus is most common in Eastern Europe, especially in Russia and Ukraine.

Poker Fraud

The former face of 888poker, Darren Woods, was given the dubious honor of becoming the first person in the UK to be prosecuted for fraud in poker.

The owner of the WSOP bracelet Woods received 15 months in prison for fraud - he tricked a few high-roller PLO into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Woods was exposed on the forum twoplustwo, where players suspected him of collusion with the player Benaremail. In this case, Woods used the nickname Dooshcom.

It is likely that Woods played under the name Benaremail, as it turned out on court that he repeatedly used the names of other people to simultaneously play from several accounts. The court ruled that Woods is obligated to pay £ 1 million to those he deceived, otherwise six additional years of prison await him.

A photographer at a poker tournament stole chips

In December last year, the popular photographer and video operator of poker tournaments Jay "WhoJedi" Newman had problems with the law in Connecticut.

He is accused of having stolen a tip in the form of chips in the poker room Foxwoods Casino. According to the court documents that came to the journalists, Newnam was arrested on the scene of the crime on December 16, 2013, and on December 24 he was applied to the Accelerated pre-trial rehabilitation. This state program allows people first accused of a crime to avoid imprisonment if this crime was insignificant.

This incident on January 8 in Facebook was reported by Billy Shea, chairman of the trade union organization, which includes assistant supervisors and dealers of Foxwoods Casino. In his report, Shi claims that Newnam stole a tournament tip from the poker room. "He was caught just before Christmas, he was arrested after watching the video. He was charged with theft, and he confessed to committing a crime, "the trade unionist wrote.

Theft of the fifth degree in Connecticut is the theft of items valued at $ 250- $ 500. This crime entails up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $ 1,000. Shi claims that Newman is now banned from appearing on Foxwoods territory. The union worker refused to comment on this incident.

The director of the Foxwoods room, Teri Ciaradio, also declined to comment. During the incident at Foxwoods, the December Mega Stacks tournament was held, and Newnam could have broadcasted on the Internet and photoreported the blog.

66 years for robbing a poker club.

The 22-year-old resident of Philadelphia was sentenced to 66 years for participating in an attempted robbery during a Texas Hold'em game at high stakes in one of the Delaware country clubs. The verdict was announced last week, andEykua Powell was the only of the six defendants in the case, who did not take the so-called deal with justice (confession in exchange for a minimum term for this charge). But the accomplice of these criminal acts, the former police officer Hugh-Jin Kim, was sentenced to only six years in prison.

As for Powell, he was charged with 11 episodes of first-degree robbery, the use of firearms during the commission of crimes, two cases of assault, dressing while committing crimes and collusion. Each case of robbery and carrying of weapons presupposes mandatory imprisonment for at least three years.

Unemployed millionaire-winner of poker games from Cheboksary announced on the wanted

A Cheboksary resident, 36-year-old Mikhail Lakhitov, was put on the federal wanted list on suspicion of tax evasion with 30 million rubles won at international poker tournaments. This was announced on Tuesday, April 4, by the management of the Investigative Committee of Russia (CKR) in Chuvashia.

According to the investigation, the suspect won over 30 million rubles in international poker tournaments held in the USA (Las Vegas, the final tournament of the world series of poker - World Series of Poker), germany, Denmark and france in 2011-2013. In the regional management of the TFR, it is believed that Lakhitov evaded payment of personal income tax in excess of 3.9 million rubles.

"Lakhitov, properly informed about the appearance to the investigator for interrogation as a suspect, did not appear at the appointed time, he did not disclose the reasons for not appearing on the agenda. Currently, there is no information about the whereabouts of the suspect, which is why Lakhitov was declared a federal wanted list, "the report says.

On March 17, it became known that a criminal case had been instituted against Lakhitov, who did not have a permanent place of employment, under Article 198 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Evasion from payment of taxes and (or) fees from an individual").

According to the current legislation, winners of gambling are obligated to pay the state a tax in the amount of 13 percent of the winning amount. Thus the tax is paid from all sum of a prize unlike bookmaker offices where the tax base decreases on the size of the made rate.
