I find it a positive that CardsChat was characterized as 'include some major names in the industry'

New Jersey Threatens Select U.S.-Based Online Poker Affiliates

In a move that has come as a huge surprise to online poker affiliates in the United States, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office have recently gone after affiliates who promote offshore internet poker rooms.

The action comes in the form of an April 17th cease-and-desist letter from New Jersey Assistant Attorney General George Rover, issued to six affiliates.

The affiliates who have been warned include some major names in the industry, including RaketheRake.com, PokerSource.com, RakeBrain.com, CardsChat.com, and PokerSites.com. The letter published by OnlinePokerReport.com was sent to RaketheRake.com and cited Bovada Poker, Merge Gaming, Black Chip Poker, and America’s Cardroom as poker sites which are being promoted by the affiliate.

I don't think it means much, maybe a few people will now know what CardsChat is, nothing more I think.

It means nothing - we complied with their requests immediately.

I see in an overreaction, a smaller site withdrew all Freerolls hosted on BCP, Bovada, and Carbon. I also see that RakeTheRake has removed all promotional offers for Rakeback on any sites other than New Jersey.

Ha, maybe small poker sites like my own can make an affiliate comeback :)

Well, the owners response from other site is that they wish to keep options open for being affiliated with legal US online poker sites as they develop and spread throughout the US. They are afraid continued sponsorship of freerolls and affiliate links will close that option.

I've noticed RTR did that too..

I think this is such bs.. NJ was late to the party so they make it so people can't affiliate for these sites?

I see that CC is still promoting Bovada on the homepage though?

Also what does it matter if it's not approved by NJ? Is Cardschat based in NJ??

My rebel side wants Cardschat to start promoting every site except for NJ sites lol..

Couldn't Nick just move out of the US and continue promoting? as a last resort?

I have seen reported that RakeTheRake will still be offering the Freerolls at this point in time...

Cardschat is based in the United Kingdom. Internet poker is legal in UK law and Cardschat has every right to discuss and promote poker for those in the "free" world who have the right to participate.

I don`t see any evidence that the site has made any specific attempt to target residents who have the misfortune to fall under the repressive regime of New Jersey, so can`t see what the basis of complaint is.

Nick is British, mate, and Cardschat has never been based in the US or claimed to be in any away American or aimed at Americans, as far as I am aware. Notice that the logo says we are a worldwide poker community. It`s purely accidental that several of the most enthusiastic contributors happen to be Americans.

Seems like an intelligent response to the Cardschat situation.

If this is the case then I don't see how the attorney General has any say whatsoever on Cardschat and who they choose to affiliate with..

If they don't want Cardschat catering to NJ specifically then I can see that but for the rest of the US or ROW players I don't see how they have any grounds to do anything really...

Of course I'm not a lawyer or a corrupt politician so me not seeing it doesn't mean much..

If I were NJ I would be trying to get on the good side of these large affiliate sites especially Cardschat and RTR, last thing you need is poker players pissed off at you when you are trying to create a poker business...

Allow me to explain . . .

engaging "in conduct, which materially aids any form of gambling activity." is against the law in NJ.

"Such conduct includes . . . the solicitation or inducement of persons to participate"

Banner ads, perhaps even freeroll games and other such affiliate perks, are solicitation and/or inducement to participate

Violating a NJ law from any other jurisdiction is still violating NJ law. There is no percentage in doing so for this site.

Making it so those who view this site from IP's in said jurisdiction don't see those banners eliminates the issue

Which we have done so this whole thing is a non-issue.

Welcome to The United States of China :) or North Korea. Internet censorship is the dumbest thing ever. I can go look up torture porn or people shitting into each others mouth. But gos forbid, how dare you cardchat promote a online poker site in front of me on a POKER FORUMS. Bad bad people.

If you can't tell...that is sarcasm :p
