On Oct 8th, Igor "Federal", Texas Hold'em Brazilian Confederation president posted a video where he explains in details what had happened in the last months which led to a formation of a group study by Sports Ministry to make poker legal here in brazil. By making it legal I mean regulations.

Poker is legal here. It doesn't have a regulation though. It may souns strange to some of you but this is where we are right now as there jurisprudence regarding this matter.

This should be great news and only great news but might not be. Brazil is having economic issues and poker can be a great source of taxes.

For those who don't work here we pay taxes that vary from nothing (those really poor people) to 27.5% (for those whose wage is about US$ 1,250/month... yes, I'm not wrong). :(

We are 5 million poker players. BSOP (Brazilian Series of Poker) is the 2nd most important sport event here. First one is Brazilian Soccer League (and soccer here is HUGE).

My concern is the tax government intends for us who play poker regardless it's recreational like me or for pros.

And you, how is it (reagrding taxes) in your country?
Does poker have a regulation? How much is your tax?
If you're Brazilian, what do you think?

My source is A. Akkari's post which is in Portuguese.

If you want it, let me knnow I post it here.

Thanks for reading!

cool your text , we and other Brazilians here in cc already talked about this issue .
by lack of regulation some platforms do not accept new registrations Brazilians.
but then when we regularization super rates. it's complicated...
Greek playing here pay taxes to the government and the club which lends money to players here will only accept them if they pay the fees ,
perhaps the regularization can be a shot in the foot

Thank you!

I saw your post but you made it before this decision announced by them, that's why I came here and began another thread. :)

im brasilian, and like you, im afraid of the taxes. politicians here just want some money, and if they see an opportunity, like this one, huge players and lot of money envolved, i think they will make some regulation to win $$ over poker

Im hoping Australia never re-think any of this stuff.
We normally fail when we have to think twice about it. :-*

I hope this does not mean reducing the player base in Brazil. Regulations are ok, but if the plan is to hurt poker, the sport in Brazil could be in big trouble.

Let's hope this is not the case.

The issue of taxes in our country and more complicated than it sounds, because our tax burden and disproportionate, poker will be taxed as a game of chance? If so has to be regulated and and supervised by the government (remember that for our policies, evangelical base, see poker as a game of chance) now is classified as a sport to professional players becomes a modality that can even receive government funds for tournaments nationals.
But the matter and that our tax reform this more than 20 years of debate in Congress and still do not have a solutio.
Finally the most debate and to me: 'I paid up to 30% tax from the government to be efficient in our case, almost a joke! "
