Shells_Bells, How does That work? Edge Sorting I'm trying to imagine how it's done? or in this case at least... @ Borgata Hotel Casino and Crockfords Casino London... Punto Banco and baccarat are they similar ?

Edge Sorting fun until the fun stops or the casinos don't pay up:D:eek::eek:

Disappointed in Phil Ivey, but I also find it a bit of irony that casino games are inherently designed to give "the house" an odds benefit, then they whine when someone finds a way to turn the tables. It's not like he brought his own deck. People with the brain power to "count cards" for example cut into the houses edge but it is still no guarantee. Unfortunately I have a hard time remembering the last hand let alone cards in a multi-deck game, lmao.

Edge sorting has been explained to me a couple times and I've watched YouTube videos to help me to understand and only know that I could never spend that much time to make edge sorting work for me.

If you are interested, there is a 60 Minutes report on Phil Ivey which includes a wee segment on how edge sorting works.(there is an advertisement near the beginning, so you can fast forward through that)

If I remember right, Ivey had another person who was able to identify the cards with him...and was advising him of those cards helping him to beat the odds and win a lot of money. That's the very very short version.

The casinos agreed to a specific rule set suggested by Ivey and team. If they complied with the terms he would play huge limits and seeing as how they have the edge they agreed. Who wouldnt want a whale playing a game he's most likely to lose?

However due to how cards are cut from the sheet at their manufactures sometimes there are repeated inconsistencies....ex....an Ace from this particular brands deck has the smallest slant to the left on both sides because it wasnt cut flawlessly from its original sheet. If I always knew where a particular card was or wasnt it helps me a lot in deciding how to play. Ivey and team took this info and ran with it.

There is really no simple or basic explanation of this situation, that I can tell, since it began about 4-5 years ago - this is a case that doesn't seem to want to end. We have several articles leading up to this one if you are interested in reading them, I can find them for you.

In the meantime, the 60 minutes video ahead of this post might explain things a little?

Even if this is taken for the truth! Was the deck of cards theirs? Their! Somewhere in the rules it says that a player must tell if a card is different from others and only in this way does he know what kind of card it is? Of course not! Because what this bazaar!?

I'm Kind of at a toss up with this. He Found a loophole in the system is it a form of cheating......eh.....Kind of. If he tampered with the cards he 100% would be accountable. However this is almost along the lines of Counting cards in blackjack. It's such an odd case.

Give Ivey the money. CASINOS have been screwing people for years. It's great to see someone stick it to the MAN! Good job Ivey!

I have to side with Phil Ivey on this one. He made a good point, if Ivey would've lost, the casino would never give back Ivey's money. So why should Ivey give back the money that he won. The casino made a BIG mistake when agreeing to the terms of Ivey's game. As a result, I think they should have to pay the consequences, maybe even a partial settlement seems fair. :D :D

People should boycott Borgata. Especially now that they're going to take his Nevada possessions/assets. This probably results in Ivey no longer playing any wsop events because Borgata reps would meet him at the cashout cage. No Ivey is not good for poker.

I still don't understand why the casinos are able to back their way out of the deal they made with Ivey. He beat them under the rules he laid out and they agreed to and it should be as simple as that.

I suppose the casino could ignore the judgement but because they went to the expense and time of going through the court system I'm betting they wouldn't stop at that point. If they didn't try to collect the judgement it's possible unprofitable things could happen like more patrons would engage in edge-sorting and feel they can get away with it? More long drawn out court costs? Edge-sorting is a skill but it is illegal in the casinos.
