casinos can and should reopen at some point with appropriate universal precautions. If they do open and people start showing up with COV-19 across the nation - who's to say which casino they got it from? The mayor and governor have an obligation to set rules and enforce those rules. She says it's not her job. I disagree.

Trump has set the bar by refusing to accept any responsibility for anything that doesn't go right. It's up to the adults in the room to take a different, responsible tack.

It IS her job! Wasn't she voted in to protect the people of the city? While the economy is important, their health falls under her job description in my opinion. It is about priorities, I guess.

I hope she's the future former mayor of Las Vegas. The people of Las Vegas definitely deserve better.

I watched it last night on CNN and it was followed by an interview with the governor of Nevada who shot down all of her "arguments".

I guess if "any publicity is good publicity" she did her job?:icon_scra

Indeed

I also saw that interview. I understand she is stuck between a rock and a hard place but it also seems that it would be her burden and responsibility to keep folks safe. On the other hand, the casinos are tourism are probably 85% of the revenue from Nevada so its a hard decision to make.......

Mayor Goodman has no authority over the major casinos, hotels and businesses on the Las Vegas Strip and areas south of downtown which are under the jurisdiction of the Clark County Commission. The mayor only has a say in what happens to casinos and businesses in downtown Las Vegas which, although historic, are few and "less than wonderful."

It is way to early to open things back up as soon as everybody relaxes and starts interacting again we are gonna see a spike in the number of covid cases and then it is gonna get worse again. Sadly we cant go back to normal until there is a vaccine in mass production and that is about 6 months to a year from now. They have to discover one then it has to be tested on animals and then on humans before it is ok'd by federal governments. Any notion of going back to normal before that is insane. What we need is for all the rich landlords out there to defer rents on everything so companies don't go bankrupt trying to pay there rents If businesses are closed they don't have to pay there employees they don't have any operating expenses because they don't need to run anything. And the only other major expense most businesses have is rent.

The mayor didn't want to answer some questions. I understand that some high-ranking people want others to take care of themselves despite the risk.

The way I see it, the mayor shouldn't have taken on the interview if she wasn't prepared to answer questions in a coherent manner.

Such people know how to evade direct answers. But sometimes the interests of the mayor and ordinary workers can coincide when the monetary profit decreases.
